[yt]8l6VQcUVEa0[/yt] The guy always had very good hand speed and power and it shows here. Also Roach seem to be working on Khan's defense a little bit in this particular vid and also movement and creating angles(i.e sidestepping). Thoughts?
Roach is a good coach for Khan, Roach superiority are fighters who are offensive type. Khan has great speed. But the thing that pulls him down the ladder is his chin and defense. But Roach can mold it like he did on Manny. We could either see Khan kiss the canvass again or emerge victorious after Dec.6.
Hmmmmmmmmmm...............i always tend to beleive that certain trainers are overatted. Why? Well Roach is littered in the glories of boxing history, a succesful fighter, trained by one of the top 3 trainers ever (Eddie Futch) and a host of NAMEED fighters he has tuaght. Yet from teaching boxing myself.........the one thing i would do is anlayse Khan fighting history (watch all his fights as an amateur and a pro). His combos have always been excellent, speed, precision, good power. Yet why when viewing this tape do i see Roach letting Khan throw combo after combo without ever moving his bloody head? There were times in the vid that he did move but then reverted back to throwing combos, and letting his head stay in virtually a straight line for an opponent to ram punches into his face. When he did MOVE they made him stay low and move under a left hook BUT whilst it ok to do this move......the guy is 5'9 or 5'10......hence fighting smaller men most of the time. So why is he being taught a defesive move for a fighter normally shorter than his opponents? The first thing i would brush up on Khan.....is to tuck the elbows in more......that if a fighter wishes to lash him with bodyshot his arm movement is ever so slight to protect himself. Whenever he throws the JAB.......tilt his head left or right, at the same time letting his footwork move him off at an angle ready to throw more power shots. Practise defensive moves......such as Roach attacking him with stright, rights and lefts....and let Amir develop skills to either move out the way, slip left or right to counter or practise holding. There is a load more i spotted......but chessh..........never beleive the hype. The only guys i ever heard (who were famous boxing trainers) that spoke so much sense were Eddie Futch, and Cus A'Dmato. Im sure there are plenty of unheard of guys that are just as good.
Another quick note.............they need to replicate a fight as much as possible.........constanly throwing 3 punch combos isnt gonna happen in a real fight......plus some of the stuff is inside fighting......which Khan just isnt strong enough to do. They need mimick pad work like a fight.........let him throw single jabs, and roach possibly moving hid his pad (hand) like a fighter would move his head...then roach can rush him........so what we get is Khan improving his Jab throwing it at a moving pad........if he misses roach then rush him.....and instanly Khan can provide a response.....go off at either angle, hold etc. Little things......would make so much more improvement. Id like to hear surlc or Mr Kool takes on this vid. We already know hi strengths, he is: fast precise good power decent speed of foot Weakness needs to improve form slight (elbows in more, less of bend at the top of his torso so he can fight slightly taller) controlling a fights pace......i.e dicatatng when he throws and when he dosent.....he always response with huge flurries and get involved in brawls and he dosent have physical stature to do so. Work on defensive moves.......jab jab...move.......jab move........jab jab...right hand.....hold.......jab jab hold. Work on him backed up against the ropes etc. Loads more but got to go now.
It was quite average in my opinion. Khan does everything in straight lines. He`s so telegraphed its not even funny. Theres no variance to his combinations and no educated thought when he`s in the ring and he doesnt move like a pro. He seems to work on his main asset which is his speed and neglects everything else. Fundamentally his very very flawed and still is quite raw and amateurish. This is a kid that can go somewhere but will ultimately find his level quite quickly because he was brought along too quickly believeing his own hype - much the same way Alex Arthur did - and simply hasnt learned his trade. I could count on one hand the amount of times he moved his head and even tried diffrent angles. Equally his variation to the body and head looks poor and clunky and he just cant seem to put them together well at all.His footwork is just as poor and this is just him doing basic pad work. This being said i dont think Roach can do anything for his style and personally as a trainer i think he`s overrated. Khan needs to go back to the small hall shows and learn his trade. But Warren put all his biscuits in his basket and now needs a good return on the kid. Wont happen at all and Khan will be an even worse version of David Reid.
For the posts above, you guys got all that from a 9 min clip? Not saying the points are not valid but I think Roach knows what his doing. Hence why he gets paid lots to train some of the worlds best fighters and we are posting on esb. There's a big diff there LOL.
Khans getting too much hate in here.....he has a great work ethnic, good power and speed does he have a glass jaw? yes he does....but he's still a very talented prospect
Utter1 - What do you think of Floyd Mayweather Snr. When he took hatton on pads early on in his training camp he was imploring him to move his head?
