Amir Khan says he hopes his next fight can be arranged in the "next few days" and Northern Irish boxer Paul McCloskey is likely to be his opponent. WBA super lightweight champion Khan told BBC Five live that his management was "looking at all the options". Speaking of McCloskey, Khan said "He approached us. He's an undefeated fighter. I'm happy to take the fight on." The Bolton-born boxer restated his aim to unify the division this year. He wants to fight the winner of the forthcoming bout between the US fighters Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander on 29 January. Bradley is the WBO light-welterweight champion and Alexander holds the WBC belt. In the meantime, Khan says he wants a new opponent and it is likely to be European champion McCloskey from Dungiven at the MEN Arena in Manchester on 16 April. "The next level for him is world title and I'm to take the fight on. He's a good fighter," Khan said. A fight with Khan's original choice of opponent, Lamont Peterson, fell through. Khan said Peterson had demanded "a huge figure - just too much money" to appear. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/9361114.stm
I'd be delighted to see this fight. McCloskey is a very good fighter, he presents something different and needs an opportunity at this level.
http://twitter.com/#!/danrafaelespn Fat Dan doesn't think it'll happen; wouldn't Prescott be the cheapest option for Team Khan & also one that would satisfy HBO (despite the fact he too is not even a top 20 LWW)
I think this is a good fight. It will sell easily. Sky will lap it up. Khan wins easily - although McCloskey will put up a great fight but ultimately get outclassed and stopped late on.
Prescott seems the most 'logical' choice in terms of being easy to make happen, I'd put my money on that. But I'd much prefer to see this. Khan hasn't fought a southpaw has he? Certainly not a credible one.
if i were khans team i would be looking for the prescott rematch, its an easy sell and its a straight forward fight for khan if he keeps disciplined. that being said, im a big mccloskey fan and i think he gives khan all sorts of problems. its a good fight because khan is obviously a top fighter but would HBO buy this? And if not would it make enough money on Sky PPv?
He's a decent fighter, given that Ortiz, Peterson, Bradley, Alexander can't be made its a decent back up option for Kahn.
