It’s a thing of desire and belief, Khan only then 23yrs old left his U.K promoter and joined up with American based Golden Boy Promotions.

Upon joining GBP Khan stated that he wanted to face the best fighters in the world, and also wanted to become the world's best fighter P4P, these were bold claims but so far Khan is on track to getting his dream fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr who will take on Victor Ortiz Sep 17th in his comeback fight.

With Khan looking to return to the ring in Dec for his last 140 match up, he could be ready to face Floyd Mid/late 2012.

For me this fight is from Khan's point of view is a timing game, Floyd will be 35yrs old next year and we will see Sep 17th where Floyd in terms of his age starting to effect his performance and his reflexes which he relies so much on to win him fights.

We can sit here and talk about Floyd's greatness and his plus points over a young Khan but the fact is this fight boils down to two key factors for me:

Floyd's aging reflexes vs Khan's rapid hand speed

I also believe it’s not always about who is the better fighter all round, but the case of who’s' tactics can pull off or who's game plan can out do who's.

People can say what they like, but when you get in the ring with Khan then you find out how fast this kid is really is, I feel Khan would shock and upset Floyd's natural game and timing with his speed and attack, Floyd a naturally defensive fighter would go into a shell at times.

I think Khan's straight punches, jab working off a come in land and get out simple game plan could do a number on Floyd based on Khans' output per round, as I said it’s not always how good you are it about what tactics you apply and can work.

I also think Khan has a great mind set, to be great you have to dare, Khan really thinks inside him that he can beat Mayweather, this is one of the most important factors, he is really becoming mentally strong and belief can really take you a long way, best of luck to him in his tall quest, many of you might not agree with me but this is how I see it.

I think Khan can pull it off, Ortiz vs Floyd will give us a clearer picture to where Floyd is at.

Speed is a wonderful thing it can make look your age overnight no matter how great you are we all age.

    Nah.

A past-prime Floyd is still better than 99% of what's out there. His reflexes, sharpness, stamina, etc, have shown no signs of serious deterioration to the point where lesser fighters have now caught up with him. Not to mention his skill and intelligence - two things which are less affected by age - are superior to anyone else in the game, and will be for the next 10-20 years.

Khan's chances are no better than Ortiz'. Floyd UD.

Valid points. Amir Khan isn't even in his prime yet and some of us are still impressed with his performances. If that fight does happen in 2012 then obv Amir will be the underdog; but nothing wrong with that. I don't think we have seen the best of Amir Khan.... there is alot of talent that is still untapped... it's great to see he is improving with each fight. If he continues to work hard and not let fame get to his head he has a bright future. Amir has talent... heaps of it

I like how fans are saying Floyd by UD... why not Floyd by KO... or doesn't Floyd have knockout power or should I say power to KO Khan?

Nah. People are overrating him on what he did to Judah. Again, unless Mays reflexes etc have slowed incredibly since his layoff it won't happen.

Maidana nearly had him out on his feet. It won't happen.

Khan isnt ready at this stage, hes only turning 25 soon and hasnt hit his peak yet. It was only two fights ago that he looked like **** against McCloskey which shows that Khan still has a while to go before being able to fight at his very best, because one good performance against an ageing Judah is just not enough to determine whether he beats Mayweather or not

From what are you basing on with in terms of reflexes are all intact?

Floyd has not faced a live fighter since Hatton and that was in 2008.

A blown up JMM and a shot Shane don't give us a real reading.

When was the last Floyd fought? 16months, we will get a good marker Sep 17th that's a live fight.

When people talk about Khan against potential opponents, it's always, Khan is fast. Khan is fast, but you need more than speed to beat top elite fighters. Guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao will not worry about the speed, they will adopt a gameplan based around the flaws, and Khan has too many of them at the minute.

Ok, fair enough, I'm only going by his Mosley and JMM fights, and I'm aware that they were a long time ago (12 months plus). But considering Floyd's style and how he showed absolutely no signs of rust in his comeback against JMM - who was made to look as slow and ineffective as he was - I personally won't be expecting the physical decline that most are hoping for. Don't be fooled into thinking Floyd was forced to sit out all these months. At his age, he actually prefers to fight as little as he does. Not to mention him being a gym rat, remaining in good shape so that when he returns to a training camp, he picks up where he left off relatively easily.

And even if he has declined seriously, his skill and experience are the things which Khan needs to worry about. Speed alone won't help him.

Other than Maidana, name me a live opponent Khan has fought?

At the time Floyd fought Shane he was considered the no1 WW in the world

It's difficult to tell. When i was watching Judah fight against Khan, I was thinking what Mayweather do differently. I could picture Khan over whelming mayweather with his movement and fast combos and not allowing mayweather to settle down and control the fight. That is the biggest factor. Amir Khan has always controlled the pace of a fight. and Floyd always finds a way to control a fight and I believe that is what it will come down to.

We will see how Floyd is against Ortiz to get a clearer picture.

But then we found out old Shane 38yrs was gassing after 2 rounds, Shane was shot to **** in that fight after being inactive for over a year at his age.

Roach will come with a great plan and trust me Floyd wont like Khan's speed and workrate, Khan will land more than most due to his style and jab and speed.

How will Floyd react when his reflexes won't silo and block like he usually does?

This young kid will be on him like a rash at times, speed is a wonderful thing it will give Floyd a age check.

Amir has dominated every counterpuncher he has fought due to his handspeed. I could actually see Khan troubling a 35 year old Mayweather early on with his jab and fast ambush style. However lets not underestimate Floyds speed of his own because of his age. I think he will just be too experienced, skilled and smart to allow Khan to win based on speed Mayweather will pick up on all the fundamental mistakes Khan is still making and punish him. Floyd UD and I know its a cliché but I think Amir could nick the first 4 rounds.

First of all, i like how you didn't answer my question about naming another live opponent other than Maidana.

Secondly, Your assuming Floyd's reflexes, etc are going to be gone by next year, what if they're not?

Also timing is the best weapon against speed, and nobody does timing better than Floyd.

Let's also not forget, Floyd has a good chin and defence, and Khan isn't exactly a big hitter at 140lbs never mind up at 147lbs, so Khan hurting Floyd won't really be a problem.

I really think you need to get your head out of Khan's arse, i'd like to see Khan do well, but arguing the fact of him beating Floyd anytime soon is foolish

This is where line "History has its ways to separate great fighters" Enter.

As of now, Khan is nowhere near ready for Floyd. But when He is ready(assuming that he continues to improve and not get damaged on his way up there) Floyd would be retired.
