I like Khan, and I don't understand the obsession some people have with "glass chins" but believing he doesn't have a glass chin is delusional. He took Maidana's shots and survived, but that was then. His most recent performances have shown that he is easily hurt, he's back to the willie limmond days unfortuntely.
He has a very poor chin. However, Lopez has looked like a ragdoll in two straight fights now; his jaw may be past the point of Khan nowadays. Neither is looking as bad as Chad Dawson at this point in time.
His chin is vulnerable, it's not the worst chin in history but it's not the best nor is it good. If he gets caught at the right time he's going to wobble about like a kangaroo or go down. Only a taxi like chicken curry Lasagne would use the Maidana fight as a good example of Khan's chin. Maidana is an all-out terrible fighter. He's very predictable, wide, one-dimensional and slow. All Maidana did was land a single clean shot late in the fight that had Khan out on his feet and barely did much to finish him off because of his terrible finishing skills and gassing out. The fact that power and only power is what made Maidana competitive in this fight for a round and a half explains Khan's chin. Only a fighter with a bad chin would get sparked under a minute and hit the deck from single shots landed by the likes of Limmond and ancient Gomez(who was a D class fighter at best his prime). Please Khan fans play the "weight" card again with your man, that's all you have to keep this taxi of a bandwagon temporarily(wait for that brutal KO as GoldenBoy carefully tries to protect him till it finally comes) alive.
You should look at the right hand that Maidana landed on Ortiz just before that fight was called off. That one Maidana was only 6 rounds in and put his heart and childhood into it and Ortiz took it just fine. Maidana can definitely punch but he's not the murderer HBO make him out to be. And in any case it was not his punching ability (that did remove Khan from his sense of stability, hard) or Khan's chin that kept him upright in that fight. It was the fact that Maidana was exhausted to the point where he had already literally given up 2 rounds preceding to rest, and that when he had his man hurt he didn't know how to finish him off. Good strong legs that Trevor Ariza drilled into him probably played a part too.
Fully agree, Maidana was 100% gassed and just winging slaps around the guard. Landed like 4 clean shots over those rounds. I think the body shot in round one took it out of Maidana and I don't know how he even continued. He was visibly dragging his feet until like the 4th round. With Maidana's slightly improved boxing, I think he's a great mach for Khan at 147. Actually, Khan was lucky to land that bodyshot and won't again. If he hadn't the first time, Maidana would probably have outpointed him or stopped him. And Khan has a disgraceful lass jaw :deal
Maidana was more competitive than 1 and a half rounds, there is a case for him winnings round 3, 6,7,10,11.12. Terrible post and you need to re watch the fight. At worst Maidana won 4 rounds. I gave him 6 and the Cortez elbow deduction cost him the fight 113-112 like one of the judges had it. Maidana could KO Khan in a rematch, tough fight for both obviously.
lets not forget the killer body shot in round 1 - you think khan can land it again, if he doesnt he would have been taken out, that body shot took about 30% from maidana. Khan punch resistance has gone worse, maybe due to weight, he was walking around at 150 when he moved to 140, now walks at 155, Nazeem richardson said Khan is weight drained, he said he was suprised how big khan was, he was saying the same thing going back before the peterson rematch
How can you score 6 rounds for Maidana is beyond me. Khan was winning comfortably, hold for dear life at the end. Give 10-8 round for Maidana in the 11th Khan still wins the fight comfortably. I think that Maidana conditioning is better now. He wasn't that well prepared for the Khan fight and the body shot KD took a lot of steam out of him.
Why is it that everytime a fighter gets KO'd nowadays it's a lucky punch? Marquez vs Pacquiao IV Garcia vs Khan Stevenson vs Dawson Can't you just admit that the better fighter won by doing what his opponent could not (AKA stopping his opponent?). Last time I checked that is the point of boxing, and anyone who calls it lucky doesn't know ****.
Maidana clearly wins rounds 6,7,10 and 12, most people gave him 11 as well. round 3 is the closest but i give Maidana the edge in that one. Seriously you should re watch the fight it was great. I agree that the body shot won Khan the fight.
