He'll be around the top fighters in his weight division for years but I think as long as he's in a fight, the other guys will always have a chance of catching him with a big punch. That's where he'll fall over (excuse the pun). He will win world titles but he won't reign for a long time simply because of his chin. Shame.
Unless his chin improves in a cotto fashion. I dont think khan reaches his physical prime till hes about 27. Some fighters just mature late, amir khan was fighting as a lighweight age 17 and is still fighting there now. On the next possible fight, if warren matchmaking is in order, khan will either by fighting mandatories at 140 or go back to 135 to fight domestic.
Hes as ready as he'll ever be. Definatly still need to work on his defence, which, IMO, is the greater worry even more so then the chin. It looked so manufactured in the short amount we saw against MAB, has to come naturally before he will be world class.
He's got all the potential in the World, but sadly his chin will stop him from ever earning a meaningful resume or wins over 'dangerous' opponents. If he can beat top fighters with serious pop despite an awful chin it will be a great achievement. It won't happen though, as he's no Sweet Pea (and even someone like Pea or Locche had punch resistance to fall back on) No amount of great footwork will stop you getting hit for the full 12 rounds. I think Kotelnik will beat him, and if he manages to beat Kotelnik the likes of Ortiz, Bradey, etc etc would beat him. I think Khan would batter Valero into retirement though.
Bradley will find a way inside, and even though he doesn't hit THAT hard, the punch he floored Cherry with would have Khan laid out for about two weeks.
I feel he needs all the stuff he is learning off Dr.Roach to become installed in him like second nature, and that is will a bit more time. Bradley is a slick operator and is in the top 3 140 fighters, i just find him a little to hot for Khan right now. Saying that if Khan puts in a very impressive performance in June for the title then maybe less time like his 2nd defence vs Bradley.
I agree on the whole BUT what I also see are some really outstanding attributes, so if he can develop a style to maximise them, he can be very successful He has blinding hand speed and athleticism, heart, and he seems quite tall/good reach at the weight. He seems to be willing to learn after he Prescott wake up call. However at the moment he's a sloppy flurry puncher with poor resistance who panics a bit when the opponent doesn't fold... He needs a lot of work, not sure that winning a strap now would even be good for him
A very good all round boxer that is continually improving under Roach. Although this is becoming somewhat of a cliche round here but ultimately his chin prevents him from being a true world beater. I'm struggling to think of another top level world champion with such a poor chin!
Loads of talent, still growing in many respects. Is a good contender but the question is will he ever be on top?
What he said. :good Tremendously talented offensive fighter with an improving punch variety since hooking up with Roach. Lacks ring intelligence and defence though imo, and with his chin im not sure his Lack of ring intelligence will do him any favours.
