Khan's pulling power comes to bear as Peterson rematch agreed

After being put repeatedly in a corner when he lost to Lamont Peterson, Amir Khan has managed to turn the tables on the American outside the ring.

Khan and his team have shown much better footwork and movement than they did in December in manoeuvring Peterson into accepting a rematch at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay on May 19.

Peterson and his manager and trainer Barry Hunter thought they could play the field and cash in on winning the WBA and IBF light-welterweight belts from Khan.

They mused about fighting Manny Pacquiao or Timothy Bradley, only to realise that their biggest pay day was Khan.

Pacquiao and Bradley took themselves out of the equation by agreeing to fight each other in June, while Floyd Mayweather Junior has signed to take on Miguel Cotto in May.

Khan's team watched all this and knew Peterson would have to come back to them.

They also dangled a very tasty carrot in front of Peterson and he will earn a career-best purse of over £1million for the fight, which is double what he pocketed for their first clash.

Although Khan will face Peterson in America after he steadfastly refused to come to Britain, the Bolton fighter regards Vegas as his second home.

Crucially, the Nevada State boxing commission is one of the best, if not the best, and most experienced bodies in the world.

Khan and his team can relax knowing there will be no repeat of suspect refereeing, dodgy judging or mysterious men in hats interfering with the scorecards.

This was the main reason why Khan and his US promoter Golden Boy wanted to stage the fight in Vegas rather than the boxing backwater of Washington.

"Security will be very tight and Las Vegas is probably the best commission in the world,' said Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer. "I know they are going to make sure that everything is going to be totally above board.

“I’ve already had conversations with the Las Vegas commission to make sure that it is going to be absolutely neutral ground for both fighters.

“We won’t see any men in hats sitting at the scorers’ table!"

After all this, there can be no excuses from Khan this time if he doesn't beat Peterson and reclaim his crowns.

    QUESTION?

Seen as Joe is gonna study Amir's last fight and hence the 'payback'; what areas do you think he can give his expertise to Khan to? As a trainer which areas does he excell in when compared to Freddie? I really think Freddie as a trainer is overated.. all his fighters had that raw talent in them.

so if khan wins would you give him respect, 'Khan is garbage-Do we not remember Breidis Prescott' - Pacquiao got KOed twice does that mean he isn't a good fighter, everyone could see khan was top heavy, strong wind would have pushed that guy over

Yes but to be fair inside fighting is probably the single biggest flaw khan has, Gallagher may only be good at that but thats all good, Freddie is the head coach, but gallagher can definatley help khan fix up a massive hole in his game
