Another good point, that and he now has a higher guard...and its taken him until his last fight to discover the jabatsch. It took him at least 6 rounds to land one decent right hand and any world class fighter can walk through his weak flurries. I just cant see him beating anybody who isnt a weak fisted bum
Khan should win this fight fairly easily. If he's smart and I'm sure it's in Roach's gameplan, he'll attack the body early and often. After he takes the wind out of Maidana sails, it's a boxing clinic on the way to a UD. The longer this fight goes the worse it's going to be on Maidana. Edit: I'm rooting for the Maidana KO though.
Kotelnik whilst decent didn't lay a glove on him. Remember what Kotelnik did to Alexander? You're counting too much on Maidana's power and Khan's lack of punch resistance when, in fact boxing wise Khan is clearly the superior of the two. He's aware of his opponent's punching power and with Roach in the corner Khan will have a perfect gameplan for Maidana. I truly believe Maidana has little to no chance on Saturday. I mean, I don't rule out a lucky punch by Maidana but that's like giving any Wlad opponent a lucky punch chance prior to the fight because of his "glass chin" only to be disappointed once more about the fact that a certain amount of skill can render your chin issues irrelevant.
Khan will keep his guard high much like Kotelnik did in his fight with Maidana. I think Maidana will catch Khan with a few shots but not flush. Khan will jab his way to a comfortable UD.
I edited it pretty fast as I was thinking about the jab at the time I posted. If you watch his previous fights with kotelnik and Paulie, Khan is very very hittable and that is not good news for a man with his chin. To say Kotelnik didn't land a glove on Khan is a lie, and a shot paulie whom hatton probably hit more landed a lot of glove on Khan.
I think Khan will win a UD no way in hell will he stop Maidana That being said I hope Maidana catches him and Knocks him the **** out! Khan's fans are out of control and need to be silenced
Khan's jab isn't the only improvement. His guard has changed so that he's nearly always in position to catch shots on his gloves, his head/upper body movement is better in spurts (best example is when you can see him weaving away from Kotelnik's 4-5 punch combo in round8 ) his movement around the ring is better, he boxes more effectively on the back foot than beforehand, he's much, much more patient and less prone to constant sloppy aggression, and he now has experience in sparring the P4P1, and trains in a much tougher atmosphere than he used to. He also has a veteran, very smart trainer in the corner to give him the right gameplan for every fight. Of course he's not the same guy as he was before, guys. That being said... The problem is that even the greatest defensive fighters of all time like Pep, Floyd, Benitez, Whitaker and co get hit. Khan can outskill Maidana, he can outspeed him, etc, but he will have to take a shot at some point, and I can just see him crumbling from the sheer power coming his way. Even if he stays in that shell defence, Maidana's punches will probably STILL hurt and tire his arms out. When someone hits that hard, it's normally a better idea to make them miss rather than letting them hit your guard, but Khan depends upon the guard rather than elusiveness. I think he'll have to be on his bike, to be honest -- he should use the same strategy as he used for Kotelnik, but with more jabbing. Move, combo, move. Catch wild shots on the gloves. Keep it up all the way to 12. Wait for Maidana to get eager and open up too much, and punish him for it as he moves in.
It's true that his defense is a bit stiff since he relies on the guard. He can't rely on parrying alone, especially if pressured and hit in the body. Whether or not Maidana will ever get that close remains to be seen, but he could use better movement in his rhythm.
