With his recent separation from UK promoter Frank Warren and his teaming up with GBP,Amir Khan has reached somewhat of a crossroads.

The common accusation levelled against previous Frank Warren fighters Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton, were that they were matched very carefully in the early part of their careers and were not well know & respected by US boxing fans.

Khan, has taken "the bull by the horns" in this bold/foolish move.

Thus far,GBP hot prospects have'nt fared too well.Khan,if he should win impressively in his US debut can build on the momentum gained from this.

However, should he get beaten at the first hurdle,he will well and truly be back at square one (where he found himself after the Prescott fight) with nowhere to go.

Amir Khan...on the brink of Greatness or Destruction?

The only other prospect GBP ****ed up (apparently) is Ortiz !!

Ortiz is a coward that is why he ****ed up, but i give the kid a second chance to prove himself. Khan on the other hand is not a coward but has a suspect chin, if he faces marquez or maidana he loses in my opinion and it will not destroy his career but set it a few years back. However if he wins it will do great for his rise so im looking forward to seeing what is move will be and how it will play out.

He has come on leaps and bounds, and he's done very well for himself so far, but when i watch him he's just so robotic, linear and rigid. He has no ring IQ nad his durability is insanely bad.

He has skills but he seems so produced and formulaic, I just feel that anyone with credentials higher than average will find a way to beat him.

Nullifying his speed will undo him so easily, getting to his chin will end him, even getting him in trouble can easily get him out of a fight cause he has no idea what to do.

It just seems that he's so far been spoonfed his career, and when he steps up to fight someone with a good skill set, who is in his weight class and a good ring IQ (so like, a B level fighter or about) will end him. Not only is he inexperienced quantitatively, he's inexperienced qualitatively - who has he fought to show us he can hang with good, proven fighters. And by that i'm not talking about looking at boxrec for KO percentages and paper titlists.

I respect him for taking the challenge, but I honestly can't see him making it. If he reaches into the elite levels, EVERYONE will spark him. Not beathim, but lay him flat out.

Can't decide but if people are questioning the opponents he will fight I don't think they need to worry, the best thing that happened for him is getting a loss early. That would encourage him and his team to take on the best opponent available to fight with no "0" to protect. How will he deal with those guys is unknown yet because he's not complete under the hands of Roach and we don't know how he would deal with certain styles in the top level.

To be honest, im not to sure about his move to GoldenBoy. On the one hand it will give him experience fighting in America. But on the other, it is a big risk because I see GoldenBoy feeding him some very tough bouts over the next year or two.

What Khan is missing in his resume is a progression in terms of the level of his opponents. He hasn't had any sort of consistency upto him winning a World Title. Warren somehow helped Khan bypass British and European level. Khan would have been better having some tough bouts at this level and held on for a World Title shot.

A positive about Khan's move to GoldenBoy is that his a opposition is going to be consistently better.

I agree with a lot of that.

People talk about how his defence has improved under Roach but he hasn't been in against anyone that has put it to the test so far and I think as soon as he gets in with a solid counter puncher he is going to struggle.

To be honest with you, I don't think Khan should even be holding a belt just yet. Especially when you consider his trainer doesn't even think he's ready to defend against a mandatory in Maidana. He still seems relatively green to me, and needs to be developed. With the talent he's got, he really does have the potential to become a world class elite fighter by the age of 27 or so.

But this needs to be done in a careful manner through wise match making, which will allow Khan to take gradual steps in ironing out his weaknesses and maximising his strengths. Frank Warren would have done exactly that! He would have given Khan enough time to have worked with Roach, and bring himself to that level where in front of the US audience, he would win impressively against world class opposition.

But unfortunately, him opting for GBP means that road to the top will be very difficult. As far as I know, GBP don't have a decent record of developing prospects in to great fighters. It won't be long before they throw him (Khan) in the way of a dangerous fighter, who he won't be quite yet ready for.

It will be interesting to see how develops now

Roach is slowing getting Khan to master his great handspeed and perfect its timing, Khan is getting close to completing this just ask Salita who did not even see them shots coming.

Khan has got a 3 fight deal with GBP, so i am not going to keep telling you guys what Khan is going to do, the guy is coming over to the U.S to show you what all the fuss is about himself.

Speed can be neutralised, he'll come undone when people get past it.

When speed and timing are perfected, it cancels and upsets any skill.

Example: Floyd (mastered speed and timing) vs JMM

Any man that steps into that squared circle is NOTHING close to that of a coward, when it comes to bravery. Have you ever stepped into the ring against a trained opponent? If not you should try it, its a experience you wont forget I promise that.

Now back to Kahn, I think he's on his way to greatness, hell of a fighter. Most every fighter tends to have an early setback, but the better ones learn from that setback and get better.

If Kahn gets past Maidana, in impressive fassion in my book he has officially learned and gotten better from his early setback.
