Ortiz made no effort whatsoever to fight a smart fight. He stood toe to toe and brawled, throwing a grand total of three jabs if memory serves correctly. It's not that Khan's defensive ability is so much greater than Ortiz's, it's that he wont fight dumb and trade power shots with Maidana. Khan will win the fight with his jab, which is one of the best in boxing. He'll gradually break maidana down and by the late rounds the fight will be won.
No, I'm not insinuating that lack of strength and conditioning led to Ortiz's demise. Looks to me like you're just trolling if that's what you got out of my post. And ya...Ortiz did try to walk through Maidana. That's how Ortiz fought all of his fights prior to maidana, and he isn't a smart fighter; he's an emotional fighter...so he didn't think he'd have to adapt his style to maidana at the time. He thought he could walk through him like he walked through everyone else. However, he met resistance unlike his other fights and after that he had no plan B and quit. And ya...Khan's chin will definitely be tested. But a smart/conservative khan at this point in his career will be nearly impossible to KO with 1 punch. He may be rocked sporadically. But he has the tools and mental game to go on his bike and outskiill maidana with ease at this point in his career. No doubt about it. Even vs a powerful puncher like maidana. It isn't like maidana is some indestructible force. He's massively overrated. It took many hard shots within exchanges (there won't many exchanges at all with khan) to make Victor Ortiz, a guy who has a bad chin, little heart, and an awful gameplan quit.
:good Khan is a clear favorite. Maidana won't 1 punch ko him like some seem to think. There's a small chance that nerves play a significant for factor khan, and maidana is able to land early and levels the playing field a bit...but the chances of that happening from my perspective are extremely small.
Khan will beat Maidana in a fairly easy, straightforward fight. Then the same people who have been saying for months that Maidana would knock Khan out will turn around and say well Maidana was **** anyway.
Show me where I claimed that Victor fought the best possible fight, from a tactician's perspective, against Maidana. However, you seem to forget that when you get tagged, as Ortiz did, you have a tendency to want to fire back. Ortiz was drawn into a slugging match in part because he got tagged a few times and wanted to administer reciprocal punishment. That type of thing happens in exhanges. Khan has a very good jab, yes. Moreover, I suspect he will use it quite liberally. It could also be quite effective. Will it be sufficient to keep Marcos off him all night? I am not sure. Finally, your "Khan won't sit there and trade power shots" analysis is simplisitic in the extreme. For example, what happens if Khan winds up with his back to the ropes in a given round and Maidana opens up?? Is he going to keep his gloves pinned to his ears or is he going to fire back? And if he fires back, is his head movement and defense so superior to Victor's that we can expect he won't get caught ever in an exchange with Maidana???
I am not trolling, mate, I am simply pointing out what you yourself cited as possible reasons Ortiz lost. Recall you brought up conditioning with respect to Victor, as if you had some sort of insight into his training.
Khan out boxes maidana. Thats not to say maidana can't do anything. Everyone wants to see him test that chin which if he connects well could be trouble. But I think Khan will have enough to beat him.
I've been a bit harsh on Maidana. He's not as crude as we all think, offensively he's actually pretty decent. He sets up his big punches well and they're not as looping or wide as they're percieved to be, his punches are much more shorter and compact. The problem for Maidana is, he's almost neanderthal in his defence. That's where he's really crude. He has no sense of how to be offensive and defensive minded without completely giving away one or the other. Amir will beat him to the punch constantly. His jab and movement will be the key. Maidana struggles if you give him a different look and put a jab in his face. This is Khan's fight to lose. He has most of the advantages...all he has to do is stay on his P's and Q's defensively and he'll pitch a shutout and i think he may even get the stoppage. He has to command the ring, be a general, control the pace of the fight and set traps for Maidana as he plods forward. I don't wanna see Khan using a lot of unnecessary movement, he must be efficient and economical. I don't think Maidana's chin is as sturdy as it should be for a pressure fighter at this level. So i'm going for a Khan stoppage, which could come at any point in the fight, but most likely mid/late in the fight.
Maidana by decapitation. :good The people cleaning the venue up afterwards are gonna have a long ass night sweeping up all that shattered glass all over the place.
