i agree that you shouldn't compare him to the greats, at his tender age. but he frequently refers to himself in that way, so why not?
only a few similarities between Khan and Pacquiao, alot more differences. Mirroring Khan's stance doesn't change anything, they have different styles.
I was impressed with Khan's power actually. He Had Maidana hurt several times. His boxing IQ ain't bad either for a young guy. Assuming he progresses and addresses his defensive flaws, I think he may have the biggest up side out of any young boxers today.
with all those negatives, he still came out victorious and could have ended it in the first. Well done, he has lots to improve on which shall push him to greater things..maybe?
I am certainly no prophet- but I see Khan going the way of a poor mans roy jones... He does have tremendous potential- he can outspeed a lot of fighters and if it were a match of athleticism, he'd be the victory 99.9% of the time. The second his athleticism falls to average, or even B+. He will be beaten for the rest of his career. His youthfulness is the only thing that can earn him fame. I can't see him sticking around like a Mosely, or even into his 30s. Like the TS said, he easy to hit- lacks an inside game- takes punishment- He needs to be handled with care by his people and put in the ring with good stylistic matchups to make it to the top. When he gets there- look to him to hand pick who he is going to defend his crown against!
The bolded ones are just plain stupid. I disagree with the "poor stamina" one as well ... he was still moving well and throwing great combos in the 11th and towards the end of the 12th.
Plus: Good speed Good Heart Minus: Terrible defense - Not entirely true.. Poor stamina - IMO he finished stronger in the maidana fight Suspect chin - Well he did take maidana's best punch Poor boxing IQ - This will get better with experience Noodle legs - Still managed to stay on his feet Easy to hit - Will improve under Roach Pitty pat punches - They are effective Doesn't have an inside game - Experience Very overrated - For what he's done at 24 i dont think so
Mine: Plus: Very good speed Good Heart Good Power (knocked down Maidana) Good Legs (didn't touch canvas) Average Chin (not glass by a longshot) Minus: Bad defense Easy to hit Doesn't have an inside game A tad overrated atm (but this will change after Khan/Bradley) Does not stick to game plan (likes to entertain the crowd) Likes to take unnecessary risks
Good post. I guess the difference between Jones and Khan, although there are many, is that Roy was a smart fighter. Jones has a high Boxing IQ, he had to have high Boxing IQ because of his style. Jones could set power punches without using the jab, now you dont do that and get away with it unless you have a high Boxing IQ. Infact that might touch on another issue, that Khan has no mid range game, meaning he doesn't use angles well, which is probably why he comes in straight so much with his attacks, and leaves himself open, now that combined with his naivety, is a bit of a negative for him.
Well sir you will proved to be very very wrong, dont compare with other fighters, khan is his own, and at a tender age of 24 is still learning, he wont stick around until his late 30s because believe me, he wont need to tarnish his legacy fighting that long
