Amir Khan retired in the next 24 months??

The notion that even Khans chin is not good enough to face ANY decent opposition, not every world class fighter has top power.

There are plenty of fights for him that will bring a lower risk for that chin...

Alexander/Witter winner
Malignaggi/Diaz winner

Defend against Salita in his next fight and then look at one of the winners above IMO.

Khan will be going long after 2 years.

Considering Khan has been rushed on to SBO and the quality of opposition since his lost to Prescott I have no doubt Khan will chance good fights.

Stay the **** away from Morales though!!

I think that's a key point.

It takes a lot of effort and motivation to pull all the disparate parts of his game together, and to apply all the things he has been taught recently.

Khan has become a very smart fighter; you can tell that his mind is going at a hundred miles an hour, and that there is a lot of conflict between what he thinks he should be doing, and what he naturally wants to do.

At the moment he has the desire and ambition to maintain that discipline, but once complaceny or disinterest seeps into the equation, then as you say, it'll all be over, in terms of serious top level achivement.

That said, I don't see Khan retiring any time soon, win or lose. Which is not to say that I see him sticking around forever, because of some love of the game, ala Roy Jones..

I just think it'll take more than one or two loses for him to have that moment where he realises his talent doesn't quite stretch far enough to cover his lofty ambitions.

 

Lets look at it this way Khan has only been with Roach for 9 months, 3 camps, and the first camp it was side by side with shared with Pacman. The question is how far does Roach think he can take Khan?

Roach feels he will make Khan P4P one of the best in a few years. With signs of his chin holding up better at 140 you never know how far Roach can take him.

It took Roach 4 or 5 years to get the best out of Manny, and in 9 months he already helped Khan become a world champion at just 22, what you guys think?

You make some good points Jeff. It's his lack of power that will affect his future earning potential. Do the general PPV paying public want to see him going 12 rounds fighting on the retreat all the time? Of course not. They want to see classic fights with drama. The only way to sell fights with his current style is with more titles on the line and unification bouts.
As someone else said, at some point his natural instinct to trade will take over and at the higher levels it could be lights out for him.

Khan reminds me alot of a young Alex Arthur. Both had an insane amount of smoke blown up their assholes and both believed it. Look at Arthur now.. Khan is treading the EXACT same path.

 

agree, has talked many times about winning titles in multiple weight divisions. so whether Frank cherry picks belt holders or puts him out there for real, thats what he wants.

If everyone was too scared of losing, to actually fight, there would be no boxing.

Yup exactly. Khan mentioned in his post-fight interview that he was going to take a few weeks off and then come back to set "new goals" with his team.

At the same time, Roach has repeatedly been asked by Sky (and even on Five Live Bunce Hour) if Khan has P4P potential. Roach seems confident that he can mould Khan into a P4P champ over time. Whether this is BS or not, I get the impression both Khan and Roach geniunly believe this is a possibility.

I'm expecting more of this talk to start coming out - probably in the build up to an eventual fight with JMM.

That said, 24-36 months is probably accurate timing for Khan's retirement assuming he reaches his peak between 24-25 years of age.

 

I agree - Khan is too ambitious for Warren and what would Roach think of a Calzaghe-like string of defences? I don't think either Khan or Rach will be happy with the prospect of a 10 year freeze before pushing further. Frank will have to let Khan have his big shots if he wants to keep him - assuming Khan keeps winning.

I have a feeling Frank realises this though.
