Looks like Kahn is trying to work on his in fighting....that may not be the best way to go for him. Not every fighter is meant to fight on the inside.....Fighters have to find the style that best suits their attributes, strengths...to help counter their weak areas. Amir doesn't have a great chin....being an inside fighter won't do him any favors even if he is able to pick up some of the skills and implement them into his fight game. He needs to be a fighter who controls range with his long arms and speed. We'll see how things work out for him. I wish him all the best...I enjoy watching him fight.
I agree...but it think he's been reading all the criticism about not being able to fight on the inside. His ego is hurt and may cause him to make the wrong decision in trainers.
I think Hunter will be smart enough to give him the necessary skills nullify on the inside. He cant even do that or clinch effectively at the moment and gets bullied into doing it.
That's my hope! A lot of trainers try to re-build the wheel (so to speak) when they get a new fighter who are already established with a style and foundation. Making slight adjustments...adding to their strengths and tweaking some skills to counter their weaker areas is a lot more effective than to try and completely change their style. A new trainer might do him some good if he's not responding to Roach....sometimes those kinds of things happen between a fighter and their trainer.
I really like Virgil Hunter. His philosophy that training camp shouldn't be smooth and that fighters and trainers need to train for all scenarios could work well for Khan, who has yet to show the ability to follow a plan B. Of course, most of Hunter's work is with Andre Ward, who has a much more rounded skill set.
He just needs to fight like he did against Kotalnik. Nice jab, move, right hand etc. If Hunter can teach him a little bit of inside fighting it may help him so he doesn't have to clinch as often as he should at the moment. Problem is his ego, he seems to have an "I know best attitude". I don't think he'll ever be top ten pound for pound but he can definitely pick up a few more belts all while taking less punishment.
The Maidana fight gave him too much false confidence, he thought he had a good chin because he was able to take a few of maidanas punches.
