IC Wales reports that former WBA LWW champ Gavin Rees will be the next opponent for LW contender Amir Khan. The fight will be announced next week. Rees lost his last fight vs. Andreas Kotelnik, but now he's ready to move down in weight to challenge Khan's Commonwealth LW title.

It's a very exciting fight on paper, a proper test for Khan against a very busy, aggressive and tough fighter with limited skills and firepower. Might be the perfect test before a world title fight, however Khan needs to fight a puncher before he faces a Campbell type of an opponent.

Nevertheless, Rees is a LWW moving down, a tough kid with an all-out style, so Khan will be in a real fight. Rees did defeat M'Baye so you can't take that away from him, so it's a good fight for Amir which he should win.

    yay

Ergo, Rees is not a natural LWW, in fact, Khan is bigger.

Its a step in the right direction.

I'm just glad it wasn't Stefano Zoff.

Rees started off a super feather if im not mistaken.

Anyways it is a good fight if Khan can win and beat Rees quicker than Koltelnik then maybe i might be won around?

Yes, he started at 130 but that was at the age of 18. He won his biggest fight at 140, so 135 should be just perfect for him.

Easy win for Khan. Rees is one-dimensional, eats a lot of punches to the face, and doesn't have KO power. I have to think this will end in a mid-round TKO.

This will end in a controversial stoppage.

Rees,eh! Teak tough cookie, but he cant crack an egg with his soft punches+he is an extremely one-dimensional and predictable fighter.
Good tune up fight for Khan who should be able to dismantle Rees systematically in the later rounds.Khan by late stoppage.

Damn! As tough as Rees is he is tailor made for the versatile British based Pakistani. Romanov would be a totally different fight. He would be a brute of a problem for Khan.Khan would have to nail his true colours to the mast against the hard hitting Belarussian fighter.I am quite sure that Khan will come up against still resistence against Rees within the first few rounds, but Khan is a smart boxer who will soon have figured out how to crack the nut.Cant really see Khan to be at his wit's end against such a one-dimensional opponent.Romanov is a different pair of shoes though.

This will teach Khan a bit about having to fight on the inside.

If Khan is forced to fight on the inside more than once in this fight I'd be very surprised.
