A lot has been said about Amir Khan. He's fast and talented, and he's only 21 years of age. Is he ready to take over the boxing world?

Here's how I break down Amir Khan's strengths and weaknesses:

    * He has fast hands, and throws combinations with amazing speed
    * He has a good fast jab
    * He's still young, and therefore has time for improvement
    * He has a pretty strong mind, and boxing maturity

    * He has fast hands, but average reflexes. He's not a counterpuncher. He prefers to walk forward, and throw a flurry of fast punches. Great counterpunchers have great reflexes.
    * His body movement and footwork is also average and not so smooth. Again, another prerequisite to becoming a good counterpuncher. In his last fight with Kristjanson, he was being pegged by the Dane's jab.
    * His power is above average, but not knock-down power. Don't get me wrong, he throws a lot of punches which adds up.

Well, we can't expect any fighter to be the best in everything. I just wanted to point what areas Khan was strong at, and what he can work on, and I'm sure he will improve upon them, since he's still young.

I was going to talk about it, but the only thing I could say is that it probably hasn't been tested yet. I haven't seen all the fights of Khan.

if the ref was not a hometown bias ref then that would've been a KO loss to Limond, an accomplised domestic level boxer but he's noturious for having next to no power.

there's really no argument, Khan has no chin.
His people know it and anyone who has followed his career knows it. He was also down against one of the bums he fought, and was dropped and on spaghetti legs in the ams.

he's an arrogant hype job and I can wait for him to get wiped out.

Not only that Khan has not been matched into anyone that is the same weight as himself ,they are in the same weight class but Khan is cutting the weight and then on the night of the fight hes a lot heavier than his opponents becasue they are not cutting the weight

Khan has huge potential but its too early to say whether he will fulfil it. His chin does seem to be slightly suspect but then anyone can go when tagged properly. When he was dropped by Limond he did respond in the manner of a champion so the signs are hopeful. He needs to concentrate on his boxing and not get involved in slugfests as I think that technically he has the tools to dismantle his opponents. Time will tell.....

    :huh most boxers do that.
unless you are suggesting that he and his opponent weigh-in earlier than they should....or even worse Kahn weight in long before his opppnent does.
It's true he's being matched against guys moving up and guys with pillow fists.

this makes me laugh, people on here saying that khan opponents cannot punch.
how do you know, have any of you been in the ring with these guys and felt their punches.

    no!!!!!!!!

he has had one fight where he was in trouble and everyone says he has no chin.

i remember holyfield was all over the place when he got tagged by bert cooper,

now you would not say he had a suspect chin would you?

sometimes in boxing if you get caught perfectly then you can go down whoever you are.

  9. I think Khan's great, a great personality, great skills and a great ambasador for Pakistani & more importantly Muslim boxers unlike another certain Muslim boxer who's going to finally get exposed Saturday.

His only weakness is that paper chin & the fact some people just live to see boxers fail :-(

They LOVE to see SOME fighters getting their a** whooped. I wonder how many of them are just... anti-muslim racists...

not really, some just hate the fighter's fans being delusional at times overhyping them too much. So theres the overused term expose for that:deal

So you hate a fighter because so many of his fans are delusional?

It's like hating Dawson or Woods because both recieved a gift from the judges vs. Glen Johnson.

Its really not that farfetched. At different times I've been a fan of fighters like Floyd or Wlad only to have to listen to their fans talk so much ridiculous smack that I ended up not able to stand the fighter. I usually revert back, but it happens.

I wish people would stop saying that Khan should have lost by KO to Limond, it really is scraping the barrel of reasons to dislike him. He was on his feet by the count of 5 and then took a knee and was up again at the count of 9. The ref made the right decision, it is perfectly within the rules of boxing to let a fighter continue if he is on his feet as late as 9.9 seconds if you think they are capable of defending themselves and fighting back - both of Which Khan did very well, he won by TKO the very next round. I've seen some people claiming that the count was a little slow, but you cannot use that as an excuse as Khan can only react to the count that the ref gives - as far as I'm aware Khan does not wear a wrist watch to refer to in such situations.

However, it showed inexperience on Khans part, he should have stayed on his knees until 8 or 9 and then stood up. He is clearly not very resistant to punches at the moment, but maybe it will improve with time - Pac was turned to jelly by a jab when he was very young but his chin has improved a lot, Cotto used to look a bit weak when he was draining himself to make the weight - Khan is clearly not going to stay at Lightweight much longer. I hope it turns out to be less of a weakness than it appears but I can't say that I am very confident.
