The thing is this, he is loaded with talent...Speed. Accuracy..But with Roach this is not MAXIMIZED nor honed... Roach teaches one style...THROW THROW THROW..spin the opponent...THROW THROW THROW... being saying this for years. He found a formula that worked for Pac and everyone drank the Kool-aide.... I seem this coming a mile away. Emmanuel steward, jeff mayweather both astute trainers.. Agree defintly time for a change and go to trainers who know how to build upon an all round games.. Roger mayweather doubt he trains anyone else but floyd.. After the Judah fight I asked some Team Khan members why they are still w Freddie and they were shocked I asked because he's the "greatest trainer". He's the greatest trainer because people know his name and SAY he's the greatest trainer. Too much talent just not being showcased due to the formulaic Roach mode. But Imma say again... ROACH DID NOTHING TO TRY TO REFRESH KHAN AFTER THE KO....no ice, water on the head? Smelling salt? NOTHING...Roach sees his fighters get in trouble, and you are on your own..this is the biggest indicator to me that Roach is a joke... He needs to stop it..he has enough money..the fighter trust the corner to be there..Ruben destroyed Ariza's 3 years of hard work... did u know they did 2 camps for the Kotelnik bout of S&C? Ariza actually replied to a fan last night on twitter: vindication, Alex? No, hard to watch that Hack ruin my work... I think the main problem with Khan is that he loved a fight too much. When he's in there and he gets tagged, he comes across as though he is in the school playground and shows his heart but ultimately it leads to the non utilisation of his key skills. I doubt a change in trainer will stop this instinctive habit. Exciting fighter but from a winning perspective, think he is suited to the amateurs. Hope I'm wrong though. His offensive mind is above average he just needs to learn some 'Defense'. That said his current style is made for contering even if he had 'good defence'? I believe he can come back if he dedicates himself and follows gameplans like he did in the Kotelnik and Judah bouts. He has fans who actually love him and like to see him in the ring. Ramadhan is coming up so he should dedicate himself to that. What do you thinks guys? People love to watch others fail. Makes them feel better about their insignificant lives. In reality they can't even compete. Khan walked out of that ring with respect and honor.
He just seems to be wide open to looping hooks, which are the punches you should be least susceptible to at elite level. It seems like he struggles unless he can stay at arms length and fight right down the middle. If anything,he's got too much heart and not enough grey matter.Add to that he's not hurting people the way he did at 135 and early on at 140. I've not been kind to him at times, but I enjoy his fights, but he just can't deal with the most predictable punches in the book.It doesn't bode well for a future at the top level.
..what frustrated me was his defense, it sucked bigtime...garcia was not the fastest guy out there and his shots were wide that i think most khan saw coming but what did amir do?..put up a very leaky highguard, let himself get hit and braced himself intead of dodgin or staying away from it...love amir but he is done..
Khan has elite skills and poor punch resistance, few fighters have the complete package. He has still accomplished a lot in his career and he will come back from this too, he is a tough kid.
dont think khan will ever recover.. what i think happens with his opponents is they taste khans power in the first 2/3 rounds and they realise that he is predictable and can not hurt them and then they start to figure him out.. khan has no power he has never koed any1 only tkos and thats accumilation of punches.. i think he needs to leave roach and join manny steward.. but personally if i was him.. ill go on a revenge mission and try to avenge all 3 defeats and if he fails along the way.. retire. I really hope he comes back stronger.
He's not coordinated enough to become a slick boxer. His best bet is becoming one of those jab bots. You know like Wlad and Vitali. Once anyone gets pass Amir's jab, he's ****ed. Prescott gave him first first loss because he wanted to be a hero and not jab, Rene along with PEDerson had him galloping for dear life, and "Dani" killed him mid-range. He doesn't have the composure and calmness under fire to fight at closer ranges, nor the coordination to fight in a wild place like brawls. Amir panics way too easily. He needs to keep it on the outside and fight at his pace. roach may be one of the best trainers, but that does not mean he's one of the best for every fighter. Instead of trying to be a high volume mid-range puncher, Amir is better off as a long distance outfighter. Mid-range is the range where the most powerful shots can be throw, and when you're high volume like Amir you naturally open yourself up more to being hit as you're firing.
I don't know about trying to become "slick", but he can become defensively responsible with the tools he already had. Everyone blames Freddie, but he's the one who turned him into a jab-oriented outside fighter with decent movement and control of range. It's whenever he deviates from that new mold that he gets clocked. I have my doubts about how far he can improve at this point, but the problem is both mental and mechanical, and it has a solution.
Amir lacks discipline. I don't know roach nor have I ever even met him, but he doesn't seem like the imposing do whatever the hell I tell you type of trainer. A wild and free spirit like Amir needs someone to drill his AZZ like your boy Cotto(e)'s militant trainer or a Steward. An alpha male type of figure like Cus.
I agree the problem is discipline. I couldn't guess Freddie's true nature either, but I was always under the impression he wasn't easy to impress. Maybe as he gets older it's harder for him to chastise fighters that aren't sticking to the game-plan. Or maybe Khan just can't listen. I feel it's the problem with him more than anything, though Roach has to share partial blame for not instilling the discipline.
