Lamont Peterson was right all along when he said 'When i beat him (again) he (Khan) will lose to lesser fighters not just world champions'

Roach can turn Khan’s career around if he teaches him to fight on the inside

If Amir Khan doesn’t dump trainer Freddie Roach in the coming weeks, Khan’s career could possibly still be saved by the world famous trainer if Roach can somehow teach Khan how to fight guys in close so that he’s not so vulnerable all the time.

Khan was badly exposed by Marcos Maidana and Lamont Peterson in his fights with them, as they were able to really batter Khan in close. Khan was useless on the inside and could only shove and hold. With the referees not breaking up the action quick enough when those fighters got inside, Khan took a lot of punishment. He did beat Maidana, but there’s still a lot of debate whether Khan would have had the referee working that fight Joe Cortez not been breaking the action when Khan was staggered and ready to go in the 10th.

Khan won’t be able to win fights just by running around and stay on the outside for 12 rounds in every fight. That takes too much out of him, and he doesn’t have the conditioning to fight that way. Khan also is a lot more vulnerable when he’s on the outside to getting hit with some major shots from his opponents. If he could learn to fight more on the inside, those shots won’t be quite as powerful.

What Khan has going against him in terms of learning how to fight inside is that Roach isn’t known for teaching fighters how to fight in close. He’s more of a trainer that is good at teaching fighters to hit and run rather than fight in close. Khan also is fairly old for a fighter trying to learn to fight in close. At 25, I don’t know if Khan would be able to grasp all the things he’d need to learn to be successful as inside fighter.

    ^^

This ***** ass writer doesn't know Khan was exposed well before having that FOTY with Marcos...

    @EmanuelSteward tweets:

    yes I would consider coaching @amirkingkhan #boxing

@AmirKingKhan Get with @EmanuelSteward. He's the best defensive trainer out there. Wladmir Klitschko is a good example. He made him a beast.

@EmanuelSteward You should train Khan! Your the best defensive coach out there! You made Wladmir into a machine!

@s0uldrift3r: @EmanuelSteward crazy question, would you consider training Amir Khan, you could do wonders for his defense!” @amirkingkhan

@EmanuelSteward I think you should train @AmirKingKhan . Kronk style would suit perfectly!

@AmirKingKhan needs to get the one and only @EmanuelSteward in his corner, IMO. For my money, the best int he bizz

@EmanuelSteward I think @AmirKingKhan needs a new boxing coach & you should become his new trainer.

I think @AmirKingKhan and @VICIOUSortiz both should hire @EmanuelSteward as their trainers.

Been saying it for a while, amir needs @EmanuelSteward, Miguel cotto should have had him aswell...

    ----

how do you get a stronger chin?? Work on the legs is that true??

head & neck excersizes equilibrium excersize pushing neck very fast followed by foot movement.

    Most obvious flaws?

reduce some of the loop in his punches

in my opinion Kahn shd b more patient n work behind a solid jab

Khan claims approach from Klitschko trainer

Amir Khan has dropped the strongest hint yet that he is to split from trainer Freddie Roach, after receiving an approach from revered corner-man Emanuel Steward, who looks after Wladimir Klitschko.

Khan's fourth-round stoppage defeat against Danny Garcia last month has drastically altered the trajectory of his career, and he is now looking to take decisive action in order to get himself back on track, which could involve splitting with Roach.

Roach has been credited with improving Khan significantly in recent years, having been piloted in following the Brit's devastating first-round KO defeat to Breidis Prescott in 2008.

However, Khan has now lost both of his last two bouts, and has expressed frustration that he plays second fiddle to Manny Pacquiao, who Roach also trains.

Khan could face similar difficulties under the tutelage of Steward, whose prize pupil is Klitschko. However, Khan is weighing up the veteran American, among other candidates.

"I've had so many trainers approach me in the past week: Steward is the main one who's approached me," Khan told Sky Sports News. "Many trainers have said they can make me into a big, unbeatable fighter. It's all about taking my time on this, it's a big decision to make. I'm still with Freddie at the moment, but in a week's time things might change.

"It's all about seeing who might suit my style, who might help me on my offence, who might help me on my defence. I think I'm one of the best offensive fighters in the world, I just need to work on my defence. I really think to be one of the leading fighters, you need to have both. There are going to be a lot of things I'm going to change, but you will see a new Amir Khan."

Meanwhile, Khan has confirmed that he wants to return to action in England during December. "I wanted the rematch with Danny Garcia, but he didn't want to fight me, he's now fighting Erik Morales," he said.

"Hopefully I can fight the winner of that [at some point]. It's a waiting game really: I want to stay busy, get a fight in December, then a rematch against Garcia."

    ^^

What I don't get is he'll still be number 2 to Wlad/Vitali etc. Maybe Emauel is more dedicated to his fighters when he has 1 to 1 time with them. Atleast he doesn't go all silent and dead like Roach when his fighter is in trouble in the ring.

  11. Khan will be back stronger, knock Garcia out then fight a few warm up fights then knock out Mayweather.

His point is that Khan's time is up. And he could be right.

    Hey guys,
Hope you’re enjoying the Olympics as much as I am! It’s been an absolutely fantastic week for Team GB and we’ve done so well picking up so many gold medals, it’s really been edge of the seat stuff.
It’s been a fantastic experience for me being at London 2012 as I’ve gotten to see firsthand so many of the great achievements that we’ll remember for so long.
Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis, Andy Murray and all the winners have done the country proud and I think that it’s only going to get better! We have nine boxers from Team GB who reached the quarter finals and all of them are capable of going on and picking up some medals, they’re only one step away.
Well done to Luke Campbell and Natasha Jonas on their excellent displays in their quarter final matchups on Sunday. Luke is now guaranteed at least a bronze medal and really came through when the pressure was on him. I’m sure the other guys will take inspiration from those performances. Congratulations also to John Joe Nevin who has claimed Ireland’s first medal in the competition.
I think London 2012 has brought the nation together and the athletes have fed off that. The support that Team GB has been getting has been immense and we’ve done amazing on the biggest stage of all. So much hardwork has gone into the preparations of these guys and it’s been something which they’ve worked years for so it’s great that it’s beginning to pay off.
I’ve loved taking it all in and all the TV work that I’ve been doing. Boxing is my number one priority but I’ve really enjoyed taking a bit of time out and doing some TV work. I can see myself going into something like this when I retire. I love the commentating side of things and it’s been great that I’ve had a chance to do some of the boxing with the BBC.
I’ve also bumped into a few famous faces whilst I’ve been down in London. I had the chance to meet with HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton, which was a tremendous honour. They’re enjoying the Games like all of us and have been to many of the events showing their support for Team GB.
It’s a shame that our football team didn’t have the luck in the penalty shoot out against South Korea as it would have meant the chance of playing Brazil in the semi-finals and at least a bronze.
My highlight so far is definitely Saturday night and it will take a lot to top that. Winning six gold medals in one day is certainly something we’ll be talking about for a long time. I’ve got really high hopes for our boxing team and think that there are some real jewels amongst them. Both the men’s and women’s teams have done excellent up to this point and now it’s just a case of getting through the quarters and securing a medal for themselves. After that they can then start thinking about the gold medal.
I was really impressed with Tom Stalker’s performance against the tough Indian Manoj Kumar. He fought a really smart fight. Anthony Ogogo has also looked really impressive, as have the other women competing - Nicola Adams and Savannah Marshall.
Anthony Joshua came through a really tough opening fight against the Cuban Erislandy Savon and I’m backing him to go all the way, though he’ll be up against some tough competition especially the Italian Roberto Cammarelle. Cammarelle is one of the favourites being that he’s the current champion good but Joshua beat him in the World Championships last year so he’ll take confidence from that if he has to face him.
I’m going to be down in London till the end of the Games and I’ve got a lot of things lined up till the end, so stay tuned to my Twitter and website for updates.
To Team GB - let’s keep going!
    All the best
    AK
