Khan is looking sharp. Always thought Amir being a bit more flat-footed and using smaller steps in and out to set up his combinations and block shots to come back was always going to be his natural progression. I think Freddie did to, the plan for Peterson two looked like what Virgil has Khan doing, and he fought more relaxed in the early parts of the Garcia fight. Virgil should be able to take him to the next level.

Never thought Khan was done. Always thought he was talented enough to be one of the next big stars, and I hope he keeps improving.

Nice one, spotting that. You're right.

I'm impressed with what I've seen from Hunter so far -- he seems sensible and knows what he's talking about. I'm glad that he's being firm with Khan and trying to get him to be more patient and intelligent in the ring. Not sure how well it will work, but it'll be interesting to find out.

I don't think I've seen Molina fight before, but he does seem to have quick, snappy punches. He looks pretty good.

Hunter knows how to teach. Having said that it remains to be seen if Garcia TKO loss took too much out of Khan.

I’ve only just skimmed through parts of it to catch some of Virgil’s instructions, and I particularly liked (as well as be a little concerned) what he was trying to drill into Khan’s head near the end. He was scolding him for excess movement – one of Khan’s worst habits. Really pleased to see him take a no-nonsense approach to this, as I feel Roach’s attempts to teach the same thing -- done in a calmer, meeker way -- failed to register in Khan’s skull.

Which brings me onto what I was worried about - Khan’s ability to absorb and understand things. I know it was early on in camp, but it seemed like was struggling to execute some of the instructions, and I wonder if there’s a slight risk of Virgil having him do things which he can’t fathom; subsequently making him more vulnerable in the ring if he tries to fight in a way which isn’t natural to him. Khan’s too deeply ingrained in his habits. He really is.

    Solution?

I honestly think he should pack his bags and make a permanent move to California. He should spend as much time with Virgil as he can. Even when out of camp and Virgil’s with other fighters, just go down to the gym and watch. Talk to him. Understand how other fighters take to his instructions. Because devoting only 6 or so weeks 2-3 times a year is not sufficient. Gotta’ do your homework and study in your own time too, man. Look at guys like Maidana, Rios, Brook, etc. It’s like they’re in the gym every ****ing day. They eat and breath that ****. Floyd did the same thing when he was coming up, and I’m sure JMM too with Nacho. But Khan doesn’t do that. It’s like he’s treating the game as if he’s learned all that’s needed to be learned and only has to turn up for training camps. He’s a hard-worker and all, but only on the physical side of things. He hasn’t quite understood how important it is to exercise his boxing brain, and in that regard, he’s kind of wasted the past 2 years or so.
