I think something is wrong with his wrist... I hardly see any fighter drop other hand whilst throwing a jab or midway combination..
that article is so revealing... jheez. its crazy to think a world class fighter lacks such basic fundamentals and is so flawed. Reay would be wise to show this to someone in khans camp so amir doesnt end up on bambi legs again. This article reveals that a garcia rematch is a really bad idea for khan
Article's very informative. Would love to see more of these for his next fights to see how he's improving. It's hard to kick away bad habits he caught from Roach's camp and he's only been under Virg for around 8 or 9 weeks. Same ol' **** from people giving him so much crap, why don't ya give the guy a break for a change? "Rome wasn't built in a day". Virgil, Ward and Khan himself said the same when asked about Khan's progress so far.
Article is ok... But it's bieng too picky... There is NOTHING wrong with Amir's jab... (half of the article) He doesn't protect or cover with his right hand - but there is no need... nobody can hit him with anything... It's so fast and rangy it's pretty much impossible to get a counter off UNLESS he then goes to throw a right hand with his right hand in that lower position opening him up for a quick counter left hook.... Somebody fancy trying to show me ANYTIME Khan has been caught or countered after throwing his jab? Nope... After his 1,2 yes... Lee Wylie focuses on the technical aspect on boxing? I'd love to see a boxer try to land something on Amir while/throwing his 'flawed' jab This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
This content is protected OH **** flawed jab... How could an elite boxer lack such fundamentals? (sarcasm) This content is protected This content is protected
Isn't your Avatar of Pernell Whitaker throwing a 'flawed' jab? :hey This content is protected Ok I think that's that myth cleared up.
This content is protected Although, to be fair to Khan, this incident wasn't due to failing to hold his right glove up. It was due to other mistakes -- circling into Maidana's overhand right (which had already caught him in the first round, and at other points too) and dropping his left hand after the jab. Boxing isn't as simple as orthodox fighters being good and unorthodox fighters being bad. (Which I think is what you're trying to say too.) The problem is that you have to know what you can get away with and what you cannot get away with. Guys like Ali and Whitaker often dropped their hands and had low guards because they knew they had lightning reflexes and superb upper body and head movement to avoid punches. Khan doesn't have those traits, and he doesn't have a great chin either, so it won't save him from his lack of defensive ability. You can throw punches that are 'flawed' in a technical, orthodox sense, but the only flaws that really matter are the ones that negatively impact your performance in the ring.
90 or 95% of the time, nobody's going to be able to reach him like that, but if he faces a left-hooking swarmer who times him as he tries to jab to keep him off him, or a southpaw that can slip punches, or a counter-puncher with height, it turns into a problem. No reason to wait until that happens to correct what is ultimately a fundamental flaw. Lots of fighters make the mistake of dropping the right, Khan has settled into the habit.
The difference is that there non punching hand although lower than what it should be is still closer to their body, khan loses control of it half the time, and it goes away from his body. I agree though when you say article was ok, it didn't show anything that people didn't already know, just looked like it took a lot of efforts. The main Improvements khan made was tactically and mentally, technique takes more than 8 weeks to improve, he did look better on the inside, technical improvements will come slowly, a little every fight, but main problems come from mentality and tactically (goes away from tactics due to mentality), not saying his technical deficiencies havent led to his down falls, but with correct mentality in a fight, they would be very hard to exploit
As harsh as this is going to sound how can anyone claim khans improved based on fighting a club level lightweight who was not recognized or registered in the top 10 by any governing body.Khan looks good against smaller opponents whenever he faced someone his own size like peterson who he couldn't bully or prescott he was found out. i see him getting knocked out next year and retiring. he's not smart enough to figure out that hes still making massive mistakes.
