in fairness mate it was your analogy and it was a poor one at that. comparing harrison with mccloskey is probably an even worse analogy..

i'll be interested to see what you have to say if mccloskey wins or puts in a good performance. i appreciated your likely to come back with a post discrediting that possibility but what will your reaction be if mccloskey defeats khan..??

 

There would be no reaction.

If Luton Town beat Liverpool in the F.A cup, which theoretically speaking would be possible, I wouldn't suddenly begin stating Luton town are a greater side than Liverpool. It would just so happen that on that day, Liverpool didn't perform to their best and Luton performed to the best of their abilities, or had some luck. It doesn't change anything regarding their actual level of ability.

you've boxed yourself into a convenient corner similar to what the Khan haters do, you have a go at the guy and say he's crap and when asked what he has to do to merit respect you come back with a watery response about things being theoretically possible. some of the Khan haters are unreal - they question his chin, question his style and then come up with every excuse in the book when he wins - the opponent wasn't really world class, he'll get found out eventually, the other guy had a day off, it was a lucky punch etc etc.

the only difference being is that McCloskey is now the butt of this crap. I'd have more respect for you if you said that you were just calling it as you see it and that you'd accept your wrong if the man won. It's unreal that your pre-empting that McCloskey doesn't deserve the win if he wins...

 

You seem to fail at basic reading. I never said anything about respect or what he deserves.

I simply stated him winning by such a remote freak incident wouldn't change my opinion that his abilities are that of a domestic level boxer. According to you're logic and my analogy, If Luton Town beat Liverpool they should be in a premier league.

The result of a match doesn't necessarily indicate anything about ability.

 

So you don't rate boxers based on results and achievements you base them on ......... what?

You never got back to me about why Peterson is above Kotelnik.

 

Their performance, that's what indicates ability and class

 

And conveniently, the quality of a performance something that is subjective.

What performance of Peterson's impressed you enough to rate him a class above Kotelnik?

If McCloskey beats Khan when you originally didn’t give him a hope in hell, then, naturally, McCloskey should go up in your estimation. Because in order to beat Khan, he would have to display qualities that you either didn't think he had, or he didn't have enough of.

Only if Khan’s performance is notably below par or McCloskey gets lucky with something, would you still have the same reservations about him.

 

Mccloskey would go up in my estimations of his ability if he came out and performed to level which I consider to be better than what he currently does. The result isn't that important to me.

If Khan came in, performed to a level which I felt was normal for him, and Mccloskey came out and won, then yeah, I would revise my opinion, but even if he did this and lost I would do the same as it's the performance I would be rating.

That said, the only way I consider it possible for him to win is via the bolded in your post.

If he survives to round 5 then i'll give the guy credit as he'll have done better than Lawton and Earl.
