Firstly let me say what a fight and what a big heart AK has, the kid that won olympic silver and has won two world titles at light welterweight is now facing the same scenario since Breidis Prescott. 1) AK absorbed a lot of punishment from round 3 - 4, he will not be the same fighter and now expect him to perform below par if he decides to fight on whether at 140 or 147. 2) His punch resistance has weakened and his lack of defence will cost him fights in the future. 3) He has REGRESSED under Freddie Roach, his lack of adapting and not following a game plan effectively has lowered his stock. AK needs to search for a new trainer, a Manny Steward OR Pedro Diaz. 4) Point number 3 will NOT happen, AK will not fire Freddie Roach. 5) Every fighter from 140lb to 147lb now know that his chin is a primary target and hence every fighter will come in with a plan to expose his chin. Sadly AK's career has gone in rollercoaster mode similar to ODLH except ODLH never got knocked out twice...only AK can change the mental and physical aspects of his craft..Certain fighters can do this such as Wladmir Klitshko and unfortunately being dragged into a war is in Khan's DNA and hence cannot be changed...the KING has now fallen, Kell Brook - We look for you now to represent British Boxing on the elite level (apart from Froch).
I disagree I agree with " some " of your points but not all , Khan has shown in the past that he can follow a game plan , and he can be disciplined , it was his motivation to be a world champion and a " winner " that drove this physical and mental obsession with following a game plan and protecting his chin / improving his hand defence .................... Roach and Khan have run there course , Freddie is a celebrity and Khan is overrated with an ego They need to part ways , if they do , Khan can comeback a better fighter
I was disappointed to hear many analysts and fighters call on Khan of 25 years old to retire from boxing, I do believe there is a lot of work to be done in all areas of his game, even offensive as I personally don't think those swarming bursts of his pack a punch. The crushing knockout was a big reality check for Khan, I have no doubts he will become world champion again, but we've seen with him time and time again (and this is what I think one of his main problem is) that he will look forward to the next fight in this case Mayweather. I also don't buy into the whole if he boxed instead of fought he'd be multi world champion. You could say that about any fighter, its his innate skill for when the going gets tough to throw caution to the wind and that is one part that will never change. It is not all downhill from here. He will fight Brook somewhere down the line in a massive domestic bout, hell certainly become world champion again and he will eventually fight at 147 - a weight he should have been competing in years ago.
Thats the question now, will he be the same? or better still how much more has he got left in him? He has either took one too many punches or been on the canvas against Willie Limond, Michael Gomez, Prescott, Maidana, Peterson and now Garcia, for me that is just too much at 25 years old and 29 fights. Only time will tell but one more brutal KO or sustained beating and it really will be GAME OVER for him as a boxer in my opinion.
I agree & now it's more so for the fact that he's got to leave the wild card as his obvious obsession in copying in recent fights some of pacmans habits as in "banging hs gloves together if he's been clipped! Standing up against the ropes with gloves cupped too the head & now the latest manifistation as in all the ooohhh ooohhh ooohhh when he unloads his 3 punch cluster. It's one thing to mimick as a kid your hero or idol but it's disconcerting for a world champ & adult to do likewise. We spoke about Khan hubris in a similar thread & now nemisis has taken a hand so now we shall see if he's gonna come to terms with the reality that he's got too adopt or evolve a more comprehensive & mature singular approach to this most ruthless of sports which goes hand in hand with being dumped out the door & onto the street yank style as in the observation of oscar's beaming face wihich said "I came in with the champ & i'am leaving the ring with the champ" Amir for me just dos'nt or has'nt evolved the way i thought he would, he's the Theo Walcott of Boxing if comparison's are anything to go by. There's no subtle guile to his work, it's all based on this rapid 1/2/3 puch combo then shift, i'am not expecting him to be a SRL or a Duran or even a Hearns but he dos'nt seem to be able to adjust once on the back foot when being walked down. It's then when he tries to skip away to his left that he gets nailed time & time again, he's all so stop/start/stop/start albeit rapid motions but he's become easy too time & that has been all to evident & as we now know become a proven disaster. I'd like him to go with Manny Steward as the high celeb atmosphere of the Wildcard is for me to be a proven detriment to his overall development & that ai'nt freddies fault it's Amir's.
:good. At 25 years of age he still has a lot more fights in him. With some adjustment to him fight game. He will become a champion again. No doubt.
