I dont know if Roach isn't part of the problem to be honest, as fight by fight, bit by bit, I seem to be seeing more evidence of Khan trying to emulate Manny Pacquiao's style, now I personally dont think Pacquiao has great footwork, I think he has extremely fast feet, but not great footwork, now I draw parallels because something AnthonyW touched upon, there were times when Khan threw punches where by Maidana was moving away from him, only they weren't throw away punches, they were solid shots meant to land that he threw from out of range, now I think this might tie in with something Manny does. I have always said regarding Manny's footwork, that he's okay doing something he wants to do, but when forced to do something he doesn't want to do, he can look awkward, infact I think there was an example of this in the Hatton fight, now what I believe it is, is that Roach likes Manny to get set before he unloads punches, mainly when he counters, which is why Manny seemingly has to STOP, before he can unload his counters, he doesn't really throw whilst he's moving that much(not when on the backfoot, when being forced to do something he doesn't want to do, in the middle of the ring he seems okay) as he seems to want to get full purchase(power) on his shots when he counters, and as you probably know, you lose power if you dont set your feet, particularly if your moving backward, so maybe that is why Pacquiao does what he does, but looks akward when someone pressures him and he's moving back and needs to counter, when he doesn't have the time to sit down on that counter? see sometimes the situation just requires a counter with average/decent power, if only time get yourself out of bad position etc.

Its hard to throw fast punches and get your feet into position at the same time, simply because its difficult to sort you feet out as quick as your hands are moving, so technically Roach might be trying to get them to do the right thing, to get their feet into position when they throw fast punches, but I believes it a double edged sword, cause solid punches are not always required, infact throwing solid punches means you commit more, so if your already in a bad spot, looking to slip away, and you throw a hard shot, but miss, it can start to work against you, sometimes a little simple cluster of minimal power counters can just break the opponents concentration enough for you to funnel back into position. I think Khan throwing punches from out of range, could!, I stress could, cause I dont know, be having a negative effect in this way, as I have never seen that from Khan before.

Dont know Leon, I should imagine with his height, that the lead right would'nt be that dangerous a punch for him to throw though, given that he is fairly long, and that the lead right hand is not really a punch you commit to. I seem to remember Khan putting someone over early in his career with a double lead right hand, he was moving laterally, then when he had the guy dancing to his tune, he stepped in and doubled the lead right twice when the opponent least expected it, which put him over.

Redondo5, yeah I question whether he's going to get by exclusively relying on long range Boxing alone, although learning mid range or inside fighting, is not a particularly easy skill to master imo, infact I'd says its something you hone over the years. I mean Wlad gets away with keeping things long because he holds, but he has the overall weight and strength to lean on the opponent, not to mention, he has a booming right hand to drop them if they do encroach into his range. Khan either develops more power, which probably isn't going to happen, develops his inside games, learns to hold, or he sorts his feet out (footwork) and does not get himself maneuvered into areas of the ring where the opponent can get on his chest and bang him.

Khan isn't really a boxer who fights off of angles and behind a jab. He looks to flurry then move. But his movement isn't thoughtful, in other words he isn't setting traps for you, he is just programmed to move after he punches because that is his only defense. He doesn't move his head, and he doesn't slip punches or anticipate and roll with them well either.

His feet are his only defense, and what is more ironic is that for a guy with quick feet he actually has to be set to punch. His offense and defense don't flow it is all one or the other.
