No one has mentioned race yet except the people crying racism. A curious thing.

Just seems like a lot of posters don't want a British citizen competing in the olympics for Pakistan, which is understandable since the decision seems to go against the grain of what the olympics is all about - good willed, patriotic competition between the member states.

I can relate. Recently for the previous summer games the US had one of its star pro basketball players play for Germany because he couldn't make the US squad. It was a travesty. People nowadays don't seem to realize that there are more important things than personal glory. For Haroon I'm guessing it's not about Britain vs Pakistan, but about a chance at a gold medal and all the money and notoriety that comes with that. People are entitled to think less of someone that has that kind of "I'm gonna get mine" attitude.

there was a recent report that showed Muslims don't even make up 10% ofthe terrorist attack(ers) in the world

It could then be argued that Taliban/al-Qaeda and saddam et al who recieved support by way of funds and arms by the UK/US goverment are in the same position as the Pakistani goverment?

Anyway aside from from the Political stuff, as a non-Pakistan British Muslim I can tell you guys that the reason it will be a big deal for Haroon to fight for Pakistan will be because Asians and now to a greater extent Muslims are not liked much by some of the Caucasian boxing fans. Afro-Carribean fighters have had a long history in British boxing as have Many black fighters in general, even them being Muslims (some still and some 'experimented') like: Eubank, Danny Williams, Muhammed Ali, Tyson et al have not been a major factor. But in today's world of Islamaphobia the cocktail of being a "Paki Muslim" means people like the khan's have to be extra British than usual to show their "loyalty" just in case they are "traitors".

the british and americans have never supported the taliban and al-aeda. they supported sadam hussein during the iran/iraq war, but then again iraq didn't have a terrorist problem under sadam hussein.

I hear Haroon is an absolute dick head of the highest calibre - and boxing for Pakistan couldn't make his reputation any lower in some people's eyes anyway.

And as for Amir... he is so loyal, that's why he fooked off to America so he could leave us all behind and duck paying the taxes toward his relatives coming over to Leicester, Bradford and Bolton to draw benefits.

You can't have it both ways, you can't ask for the patriotic following of British boxing fans while at the same time pissing on the very idea of British patriotism. Why would British fans pay special attention to Haroon at all if not because of his Britishness? Why not be a fan of Bradley or Cotto or whoever the **** ever?

You seem to wrapped up in a contradictory arguement. How can someone cry and whine about not getting the loyalty of his countrymen when he has shown no loyalty in return? It's a self centered and self serving argument.

Case in point, Barrera being the "home" fighter against Khan in manchester.

The whole issue would be with him being a paksitani muslim, plain and simple. If he was irish and fought for the Ireland, like John Duddy, nothing would be made of it.

**** that! Some people are acting as if the Khans should be ashamed of their heritage!Look at Amir,he represented Britain in the Olympics and draped himself in the Union Jack but it still doesn't stop the racism towards him. They should both do whatever the **** they want and to hell with the racists who will never accept them anyway.

Pakistan has been an ally of the united states since it came into existence
And you know this how? Did you get this from the Fair and balanced fox news, or have you undertaken door to door research?
once again showing your ignorance, you're painting every attack committed on pakistan soil as the work of Mullah Omar  seriouisly? I bet he's hidden in some cave planning it out, you're an idiot! Dont take your anger out on the fact you were overcharged on a taxi fare on a whole friggin country.

Duddy doesn't have many British fans as far as I know. He considers himself Irish and so has a following of ethnic Irish. That's the way it works. If Haroon thinks a gold medal is more important than representing Britain then the consequences are he'll have Pakistani fans instead of British fans. If he doesn't think much of his Britishness then why would British fans flock to him? Doesn't make much sense does it.

It's a really simple case of trying to have your cake and eat it too. Demand that fans follow you through a feeling of patriotism that you have personally shown you don't have.

As far as i'm aware, he's not asked anybody to support him simply cos of the passport he holds. If he's skilled and has heart, he'l gain fans regardless.
He need'nt worry about any of this nonsence anyway, those who will support him, will support him, and the rest will hate on him, regardless. He'l have a good career with plenty of pay dates as support on his brothers cards. ITs certainly not hurt Matthew Hatton, Bobby Pacquaio or Jose Cotto.

And if he's really good, then he'l manage to get his own fans, ala Rafael Marquez.

Dude, you can't really be this dumb. What strategic purpose would have been served by the CIA funding an organization that has done nothing but attack the US and US allies and interests since it began.

This sounds like some really stupid and paranoid "great satan" talk.
