Regardless of his age he is still a top 5 HW, top 3 by my reckoning. I've been a vocal critic of Wilder and his choice of opposition but some are being far too happy to discredit this bout.

What exactly would Ortiz have to gain from lying about his age? If he passes his medicals, age is irrelevant. Nothing in the rule book saying a 48 year old can't box. If he was actually 48, he'd be better off publicising it. Would help him promotionally and get the whole world behind him.

I don't think he's 48. He has a full head of hair with a healthy hairline. That's rare for a 48 year old these days.

I've heard Ortiz is about 78 and lying about his age. Means he's actually 40 years older. Word is he was about 20 when Cuban revolution has ended. He was partying with Che Guevara and Fidel Castro when they finally kicked Fulgencio Batista off Cuba

 

Like I said it makes no sense from a boxing standpoint. I know it's common in sport. In football it's common amongst African players but there is financial incentive because old players never get offered lengthy contracts at clubs.

As I said above, Ortiz being a 48 year old world title challenger would capture the world's attention and would probably maximise his earning potential in the sport.

 

Who cares. He's the best fighter Wilder can face.

 

Grandpa Ortiz used steroids and HGH to prolong his prime, but Haymon will make sure he will get drug tested strictly this time just like Povetkin. Ortiz will fight like he is actually 48 years old in the ring with Wilder. Otherwise Wilder wouldn't take that fight, or any fight that poses more risk than minimal.

 

Just look at his face, does that look like a 38 or 48 year old face to you?

 

Look at the entire Fury clan. Some of these guys are in their teens and look 35. Tyson could easily pass as mid 30s. Hughie has looked older than his age since he joined the pros.

 

Hughie looked like a teenager riddled with acne 6 months ago.....
