No. Khan is Co-Promoted by GBP and Khan promotions. It's Khan and his management who determine what he wants, GBP and KP's just assist in attemping to get those demands, and then when a deal is made, go about putting the fight together. Khan is in too much financial control of his dealings to be in a position other fighters get themselves whereby the promotor tells them how much they are getting.
HBO are doing the negotiations, Team khan are not involved at all. Khan GBP and Shaw have agreed the deal but Bradley is not agreeing.
Bradley was given a guaranteed $1m minimum from HBO for his next fight after Alexander as an incentive to make that fight. He's not going to take $1.4m when HBO are putting up similar money with additional $$$$ coming from the UK. They're exactly right to want a 50/50 split - unless one guy is a much bigger draw than the other I fail to see why they can't just get it signed on this basis for fights like these.
Bradley can **** off, he's being propped up by HBO cash and he brings nothing else to the table. He can't even draw in his home state. Bradley can't expect anything more than the HBO money plus half the gate/sponsorships.
I hate these HBO fighters who bring nothing to the table but think they deserve all the money. Bradley is a bloody good fighter but even in the US he's no one to the casual sports fan.
Saj is not Saj as in Khan's clinger on, he's just some clown. It's irrelevant in my view of who is the bigger draw, or who brings the most money. It's a unification bout, it's 50/50 split.
Angulo and Bradley co headlined a card in California not too long ago. Bradleys home state and Angulo should be able to draw Latinos but they failed to sell out a 2000 seater arena. Since then Angulos turned down 750000 to fight Martinez and is now stuck back in Mexico, nd now Bradleys pulling thisatsch Anyway, Bradleys not turning down the money imo, hes gonna leave his contract with Shaw run out before signing this fight. If he signs it now Shaw will have rights to him for another couple years
The first two examples are ridiculous. Neither of these two guys are anywhere near the draw of Pac, JMM. However, personally that's how I believe it should be. 80/20 for Champion-Challenger. 50/50 for champion vs champion
I agree with the general sentiments though. HBO are taking punts on fighters becoming stars pretty early in their career and are paying them the big bucks to fight bums. So when they have to take a risky/big fight they're bound to have the sense of entitlement and want rewarding in proportion. Take Berto as an example, he was paid $1m+ for his last fight before Ortiz against a clown..... so if he managed to get a fight with a Mosley or a Cotto he's bound to be wanting $3-5m. Offering both Bradley and Alexander a $1m payday win or lose was pretty dumb from their point of view. Alexander is facing Matthysse... I'd bet most on here haven't heard of him..... and Bradley is set to face Khan who brings $$$$. I can see both sides of the argument. Really they need to just pay for fights on their own merit - but a lot of the better young Americans like Ward are on Showtime, so they need to dig someone up from somewhere. They're just going about it wrong.
I actually had hopes of these negotiations going smoothly :-( But on the plus side, we can have endless threads and posts discussing all the intricate contract and negotiation deals. **** Bradley if he doesn't take this.
In years gone by divisions didn't get unified so HBO are doing a good job of enabling unification at 140 I don't blame Bradley for this because he needs to secure his future if he's going after big fights, it's likely this is more about getting away from Shaw than it is holding out for more money from Khan. Corrales had no money when he died, Shaw robbed him blind, take the hash out of the below link http://www.boxing-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121266
