Katsunari Takayama vs. Shin Ono, 12 rounds @ strawweight

 

Rounds 1-4

Takayama has been in constant flight, circumnavigating Ono and using straight quick flurries and counters, scoring and getting away. Ono has been applying pressure but unable to land the one big clap-down left he seems to be looking for, mostly just pawing right jabs ineffectively trying to get a bead on Takayama.

Round 5

Takayama is dancing in and out spearing his 1-2 into the stomach and then out inclined toward Ono's hairline. Takayama is diving in past right jabs and sweeping hooks from Ono, plugging the body. Takayama drops in overhand rights while bent over, pressing against Ono and pushing off to reset. Ono is trying to time Takayama with straight lefts on the nose and catching him on the way in with a few, but never able to follow up as Takayama scrapes through and holds before springing off. Ono works a left uppercut while Tayakama is briefly lain against him.

Round 6

Takayama is catching right jabs on his left wrist, parrying them aside, countering with straight rights on the body. Ono is cuffing Takayama across the head with right hooks as Takayama is bent forward with his rights downstairs. Left hands by Ono as Takayama separates and moves, his legs carrying him not quite as far as they were early on, allowing Ono to clip him atop the crown.

It would be quite a statement if unheralded domestic-level Ono - with only 2 kayos in 24 bouts - can do what Chocolatito failed to, and stop Takayama. :think

 

Round 7

Takayama is jabbing with his left and sidestepping. Ono is ducking and rolling to his right and slamming the body of Takayama with a right hook. Long combinations by Ono, finding the champion as he ducks backward with lead right hooks and left crosses on the face. Takayama is floating his left jab and trotting around on his toes, unable to maintain distance and so opting to just circle as quickly as he can so Ono can't get set.

Round 8

Takayama is finding it difficult to hold Ono at bay, quadrupling his left jab as he drifts out to his left, slowing down. Ono is waiting, turning, bending at the waist and launching big left hands at Takayama. Right hooks on the body from Ono help steady his target and slow his movement. Ono is roughing Takayama up close, forcing exchanges and thudding across his head with forearms even when missing in combinatoin.
