Takayama is low on steam and forced to stand his ground and fight. They exchange 1-2s and Ono's prove heavier although Tayakama is pumping out straights with all his might and landing a bit more with his faster hands. Good action, Tayakama still moving where he can but mostly never straying far and with exchanges coming in high frequency. Ono starts to get lit up near the end of the round, Takayama landing several times for each of his left crosses and doing less individual damage but adding up, while Ono starts to lower his output.

Round 10

Tayakama has found a second wind, bouncing around on his toes and tossing 1-2s into Ono's face. Right hand popped in by Tayakama, darting in and out. Ono is tired and lunges past Tayakama with a left hand. Ono is hung up on the middle rope, tangled, and Tayakama blasts him with a right hand after looking at the ref as though asking permission. Ono pushes free and grabs at Tayakama and goes to his knees, ruled a slip even as Tayakama dusts his coif with light blows.

10-9 Tayakama, good comeback started in the 9th, seeing that Ono is short on gas

96-94 Tayakama

 

Round 11

Tayakama is throwing combos and stepping lightly around Ono, but getting caught by straight lefts on the body. Takayama is wary as Ono now seems to have found reserves of energy. Takayama is mostly dancing around outside, tossing jabs and rights into the air. Solid body work by Ono diving in. Right hooks and left hands up top by Ono just grazing as Takayama pulls back and skirts away.

Round 12

Takayama is charging in and rolling big overhand rights up into Ono's face. Jabs and overhands darting in by Takayama. Ono is weary and sagging. Clinches by Ono lurching into Takayama. Relentless in and out combos by the champion. Double left hook to the body, right hand up top by Takayama. Ono tries holding onto his waist. Ono down! Ono hugs out the rest of the round.

Nah, evenly matched and I'd give Ono a very decent chance in a rematch if he came better conditioned.

The knockdowns Tak scored were equal parts accumulation of his light gnat-stings and exhaustion on the challenger's part.
