Thats it? You aren't watching very close. Nothing against Guzman; he is an absolutely fantastic fighter but Gamboa has a couple of freakish traits (more speed, insane reflexes) that even a top p4p'er like Guzman doesn't have. Its those things that you have to be born with....

He doesn't have more speed and reflexes than a peak Guzman did. Don't lie like that.:bart

ok maybe speed is a wash, but I see better reflexes in Gamboa hence why he walks around with his arms down at times

Perhaps cos whereas Guzman is fighting Worldclass opponents, Gamboa is fighting C level opponents? Im sure put a C level fighter in front of Guzzy and he will make them look foolish with 1 hand tied behind his back.

defensively Gamboa doesn't even compare to the reflexes that Mijares displays in his fights. We have been able to see Mijares on display over 12 rounds and fight in front of your face and make you miss, the guy has ridiculous defensive reflexes and his punches are so natural. The difference is power and so Gamboa is definitely more exciting than Mijares but I think his power is a large part of his game. Mijares relies mainly on pure skills.

Mijares has a more complete defense than Gamboa from what I've seen and he's displayed it against better opposition. But Gamboa is probably quicker.

Don't get me wrong I like Gamboa alot, I don't want to come off like I'm hating on him because the guy is a bad ass as of right now. I just think so far right now Mijares is on a different level... at least for me. True skills and technique are displayed over 12 rounds, its hard to gauge fighters when they destroy their opponents out of just sheer brute strength in a couple rounds. And again its just annoying because people are saying Gamboa would beat Linares etc, Sure maybe in a few years but right now what is there to go off of? He only has NINE fights lolol. I just think people are jumping to conclusions.

BTW don't you wish Gamboa was already an established 130lber? I think Guzman vs Gamboa would have been one of the best ****ing rivalries of all time! I just hope more caribbean fighter start coming out into boxing. I'd LOVE to see some rivalries start up between Puerto Rico/D.Rep/Cuba

Right now, I have to agree. Mijares has proved his elite-status against good competition. And not only that, the way he's beaten them has impressed me the most. He's as complete a fighter as anybody in the game and one of the best fighters skill-wise from 115 down in boxing history.

Gamboa has the potential to be every bit as good in my opinion, but we'll just have to wait and see.

    :good

Who promotes Gamboa? I think a good promotional company could do wonders in his development. If he is thrown into the fire too soon idk. I can just picture him getting blitz Trinidad ala vargas/reid and getting his career destroyed. And in the 130lb division there certainly are fighters who could pull a "Trinidad" on him expecially with a lack of professional experience. He really needs to be promoted the right way.

Hopkins will retire him the same way the Germans retired the British in WW1.

Joe Calzaghe is better then Hop at this stage of his career in every area. This will be a one sided fight, and it won't be Calzaghe who is retiring.

Your jumping the gun on Gamboa big time. Guys who fight in an unorthadox manner, with a emphasis on offense will always look phenomanel against limited opponents. Wait until he steps up before you start proclaiming him as the next superstar of boxing. Guzman is fighting WORLDCLASS opponents, that is the major difference. If you truely believe Gamboa to have better reflexes and speed then Guzman at this young stage of his career, you are letting bias cloud your judgement. Very few fighters in the sport have the reflexes and speed of Guzman, yet alone being better then him in this regard.

Very true, and going by many posts around here, it's shaping up as a great risk/reward fight for Calzaghe.

I really can't see him losing this one, I just don't see where the loss will come from.

I'm not as high on Gamboa's potential as I am Mijares yet, but then I have to see how his style works against the top guys he'll be facing in time.
