I think PBF's stint at 135 lbs. was ultimately a disapointment, with the main headline being the controversial first fight with JLC, which overshadows his convincing win in the rematch. His cruise-control win over Victoriano Sosa was boring and his exciting win over dangerous Philip N'Dou is largely forgotten since N'Dou fizzled out after that loss. Let's use are imagination and consider what would happen if he fought the following guys. Just pretend he was fighting 3 times a year or that he skipped the pointless fights with Bruseles and Chop Chop and fought these guys before jumping directly up to fight Gatti. * Accelino Freitas * Paul Spadafora * Joel Casamayor * Stevie 'Lil But Bad' Johnston Do you pick him against all four, and if he beats those four, how much stronger does that make his record at lightweight historically speaking?
Casamoyer was a hell of a fighter. I actually pick him to outsmart Ultimate prime Mayweather who was truly great AND dangerous at 130. Joel was great too at that time.
Joel is hands down the best of that list. A well schooled all around fighter and one of the best of the Cuban boxing program of the early 90's. With all that said, I still like Floyd over him. I can give two S---ts about all the Money Mayweather stuff. The guy is an all time great fighter.
I'm witth you guys on Casamayor. He was mean, smart, skillful and a southpaw. I recall Freitas being hyped up coming over as a "Duran" Joel had that sucker backing up by the referee's instructions. Not an easy night for anyone. Sort of a John John Molina of that time.
