Think Belllew deserves an apology from all the people that doubted him (including myself) ahead of the fight with Haye. Also seem to recall a lot of people slating this fight a few weeks back calling it the biggest mismatch in boxing... well shows how much you lot know about the sport. I said this would be a good fight and got absolutely caned on here. Would love to have seen the look on those peoples faces when these two guys were slugging it out in the later rounds. Roll on Bellew v Haye II !
It was Cotto-Martinez 2, Haye was shot to **** and looking for an easy cash out, but he was more hobbled than even he realized, Bellew gets no apology from me.
The only think I would apologise to Bellew for is thinking he would crumple after Hayes first attack. I thought even a spent Haye would have enough to get rid of him early, because of the weight difference as well. It wasn't a conclusive win for Tony though. so saying "why did people doubt him" doesn't ring true in the sense of him winning. more like why did people doubt he was tough enough to last the course of the fight.
Lol at this pathetic thread mate. Bellew had a sitting duck target for five rounds and still barely managed to stop him. Haye should have been left pizza faced but in the end Bellew was still getting tagged just as bad and Haye was only narrowly losing the rounds due to punch output. Bellew did the same thing when Cleverly gassed and was lying in the ropes for five rounds in their rematch. Still couldn't take him out. He's actually one of the worst finishers in the game. He gets my respect for being an overachiever and a man with ridiculous heart but he gets no respect or credit from me for beating a one legged Haye. If it was the other way round and Bellew had one leg, Haye would have body bagged him. Bellew is so lucky that he is now a PPV star because it gives him a reason to avoid Breidis, Gassiev and Usyk who all totally murk him in devastating fashion.
I can't give Bellow much credit for struggling to beat a one legged opponent, all of his post fight interviews have been a joke too, talking like he's a legit threat in the heavyweight division whilst acting like the Haye injury never happened. I will give him credit for being more competitive in the first 5 rounds than I thought he would but I still had him losing 4-1 with Haye starting to take over the fight and would IMO have gone onto KO Bellow but for the injury.
Can I just point out: If this had been any other fight in a British ring or even elsewhere, it would have been stopped in round 6 or 7 when Bellew was pounding him against the ropes without answer. The only reason the ref and his corner let Bellew nearly kill Haye was because of the potential big money Haye-Joshua fight down the road.
No way mate, Bellew shots never really hurt Haye, even at the final knockdown he wasn't hurt from Bellews punches but more from exhaustion & his ankle completely giving way.
Absolute nonsense. At no stage was there good reason for the ref to jump in. Only good reason to stop the fight was for the corner to throw in the towel but Haye is a British lion and would never have quit.
Apologies nothing, in every fight one person has to win and one has to lose (barring a draw ofcourse) therefore there will always be someone wrong in predicting who will win. Congrats to TB for winning, I like many thought it would be a Haye win but that doesnt mean I should apologise for being wrong!
No apology from me. I never bad mouthed Tony anyway, i don't do that to no boxer, but no way did he beat a 100% David Haye. I personally felt uncomfortable watching an injured man with one leg trying to defend himself. Obviously not fair, but that's the way boxing goes. What i am sad about is Tony taking full credit for the win without even mentioning that Haye's injury was a huge factor in the fight.
Bellew got half-lucky that Haye was shot and injured, the other half was that Bellew was better than I thought evading the idiotic looping punches Haye threw. Bellew deserves credit but only so much.
It's pathetic, you have Penfold Dave Coldwell actually talking about how his gameplan and strategy worked. These guys have no shame.
no one would of expected Haye to be that injured. He was dragging his feet along like an injured animal. It was sad to see. Overall though i'm glad that both fighters mentally left the ring healthy.
It was still a complete mismatch. Bellew only won against a injured David Haye. No one could of knew he was injured going in to the fight,
