Which fighters can you simply not stomach to watch? Not necessarily your least favorite per se, but one whose style and manner inside the ring are instant non-starters? The two that spring to mind for me are Benvenuti and Gianfranco Rosi. Mind you, I have nothing against Italians. I always did find it weird that they (especially Benvenuti) had such a fanbase in their own country. National Pride aside, I find it hard to believe any Italian with even a modicum of boxing appreciation or knowledge would turn up to their fights with any goal in mind other than to see them lose. But by God, there they were, cheering on their clinching, elbowing, clutching modern-day Roman warriors. Makes you wonder if the empire was won by mauling and clinching the Carthaginians into submission via decision. At any rate, who do you decline to watch, given the opportunity?
Chris Eubank. The early fights with Benn and Watson are classic but after that, the constant roll out of crappy contenders turned me right off him.
Early on I disliked Eusebio Pedroza for his dirty tactics, now I have come to watch him again after knowing how good he actually was,but still,I can't stomach "maul paul" type of boxers who will hit anywhere.
Joe Calzaghe. I hate to see guys with high workrate but who can´t properly punch correctly and hard enough. Not my thing... Monzón has to be up there on the hard to the eyes department, but he could have interesting moments sometimes...
Was Calzaghe always lime that? I think he changed his style somewhat in the second part of his career due to very bad hands.
In regards to great fighters Monzon just didn't do it for me personally I couldn't get into his fights. I respect his achievements but in regards to rewatching any of his fights ? Never.
Ruiz was mine as well. He was very effective landing a punch and then holding. He would routinely and excessively hold. All he did was smother opponents offense and stink up a fight.
Saoul Mamby...... As many times as I saw him fight, back in the days, I was always wondering shouldn't I be doing something else? Heck of a fighter though. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and all of his well picked competition above jr. welterweight.
It's a weird dichotomy that has persisted in Italian boxing at both the amateur and professional level - some box in a very clean aesthetically pleasing style while roughly as many are just utterly filthy gremlins. Most striking example I can think of is the longtime #1 and #2 members of the national team who fought side by side in three consecutive Olympic Games in 2004-2012 - Roberto Cammarelle and Clemente Russo. The former was a textbook-perfect joy to watch; the latter made you want to gouge out your eyeballs with a spork.
most RJJ fights, his high lights are incredible but most of his fights were boring as hell for 95 percent of the time Eddie Gazo's fights are unwatchable, he even got a boring fight out of Koichi Wajima (washes as he was), he just holds and pushes for entire fights Yong Kang Kim never wants to engage even made Saen Sor Ploenchit and Sot Chitalada look boring
