Am i justified in moving Pacquiao ahead of Whitaker on my ATG list? I just Manny has had a more storied career and really brought a great deal of recognition to boxing at a low point. I do think Whitaker is a more skilled fighter by the way.

I stated that Pacquiao is not a better boxer than Whitaker. We also know that ATG rankings are not soley based on skill or how many losses you've taken. My appreciation for Pacquiao takes into consideration his impact outside of the ring. And no can say that that is meaningless, because we all know that Ali's legacy bennifitted enormously from what he did outside of the ring.

You're a dumbass LOL. Most experts/historians have Floyd ahead of Pac.

    Deal with it.

You would have to rate Pacquiao as the P4P #1 in order to rate him ahead of Whitaker, so yeah, I'd say that's unreasonable. Totally.

This wasn't really an "ATG Question". More like a Journeyman question.

Sorry but PAC doesn't even deserve to be in front of JMM. It's funny people try to still hold on to this guy.

I also don't think it matters that Pacquiao took a face dive against Marquez at the tail end of his career. Both men fought twice in their prim e and those fights were very close.

I think it does if you look past the names on paper and see Manny never improved as a fighter. A farce is a farce and JMM ended that fad.

At the end of the day yes. You want to count circus acts on steroids then you're right. I don't count fighting guys specifically after a decline and for lame abc made up titles.

No. Any case can be made for pretty much any of the top 50 guys over one another, with the general top 10 or so guys untouchable. Whitaker or Pacquiao are not among those legends, so I have no problem rating those two in any way, same with Mayweather, Jones, Hopkins, Lopez, Chavez. I mean, I have my strong opinions about how I think, but I'm not a typical ESB'er who thinks my opinion is fact and there's no argument to the contrary, and you DKSAB if you disagree with me, yadda yadda...

Opinion, not fact, Jmm beat real champs at real weights. Diaz was fight was more significant than Cotto at 145, Margarito at 150, Clottey, Shane and Oscar fights. Name wise there's no argument but none of those guys were real champs when he fought them. If Manny fought Margarito after he beat Cotto, fought Shane after he Margarito or Cotto after he beat Shane I would keep my mouth shut, but he specifically fought those guys after they were shells of themselves. There's no consistency in Manny's career. He knocks down Shane, breaks Margo's eye sockets then can't bruise Bradley's face? GTFOH. Dude is the Lance Armstrong/Kim kardashian/Jeremy Lin/Tim tebow of boxing. He had a popular 3 years but got exposed. Popularity contests mean **** to me. Only constant measuring stick to ascertain where Manny was at was JMM. Still to this day has not learned how to avoid a right hand. Dude will only hurt himself more if he continues boxing.
