The Promoter's House fighter vs some guy you know is going to get crushed. That was why back
in the 80's & 90's on ESPN & USA, the fighters battled for USBA & NABF titles, were household names too,
because the fights were good competitive matches.

You'd leave with your tail between you legs or a massive concussion.

Changing flights from 15 to 12 rounds was never really about boxer safety. There is no evidence that it makes any difference!
It was yet another fraud perpetrated by Don King/Jose Suliaman to make fight cards more palatable and predictable for broadcast execs.
If Boxing is so inherently dangerous that it can’t be done over the 15 round distance distance then it is too dangerous to do it for 12 rounds.

    This might be crazy.

But what if 15 rounds was only for the Lineal title?

If you wanted to contest for the lineal title, you would have to box 15 rounds. Every other title could be 12, but the lineal as 15 would prove who's Nunero Uno in the division.

Just go back to 15 round championship bouts. No need to change anything else. This extra distance separates the men from the boys.

I think the real option should be 15 rounds, 3 minutes per round BUT same day weigh-ins and before the fight no more than 3 pounds Rehydration, so you avoid dry brains and bully mismatches and wear on the boxers bodies.

Also outdo the stupid amateur system, volume punching must not be the rule, but ring generalship and old-school "fencing" approach.

The truth is, we should not be arguing for 15 rounds, we should be justifying 12 round fights, before it is cut to 10, 8 or 6...

    Nice idea, @Mendoza.

But I don't know if it's competitive matchups or mismatches that increases the risk of injury. Short of making boxing either some kind of first contact sport like fencing or no head shots at all, there's only so much that can be done to reduce the risk of a sport that is inherently violent and dangerous.

So I suspect that bringing back 15 rounds in any form is only marginally more likely than bringing back Duk-Koo Kim.
