I know that the Battle between WBA Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto and challenger Anotonio Margarito is one of great importance as it will clarify who is the best welterweight in the world and determine their standing on the mythical pound 4 pound list.

Yet, as there has been a lot of anticipation for the fight, there has not been a lot of talking between Cotto and Margarito. Yet, the question I want ask is despite the lack of it, has any of the fighters hinted from their limited appearances and statement that one, both, or none of the fighters are big trash talkers but are just afraid to show it?

I guess this is typical of a rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico. Anyways, I saw the ESPN2 interview between Cotto and Judah before their fight. Judah won the verbal battle before the fight but Cotto shut him up and out in the ring when it really counted. So I understand you.

I think these are two guys who leave that trash-talk drama out the window and it's all down to fighting for them. But I wouldn't mind seeing a little to hype their fight. Because unless you're a pretty big boxing fan, not too many people know about their fight and it ha FOTY potential.

But has Margarito done this previously? When I read through his convo with one journalist on Cotto, he said that this fight isn't the hardest but the most important. Isn't that subtle trash talk there? Even Cotto acknowledged that the fight against Margarito is the biggest of his career? Is Margarito being too overconfident after knocking out an opponent he had already demolished before? Plus, I think the pictures of Cotto's training and Margo's video training to this point from other threads in this forum makes me think Cotto is more prepared and focused. Anybody else agree or at least see where I am coming from?

As the fight gets closer, there will be more talk. There is still time to go and I think both fighters respect each others ability. It will be a War! Has anyone heard about the undercard?

Neither seem like huge trash talkers. however, i caught a slight bit of underlying trash talk from Cotto when interviewed after Cintron commented that Cotto couldnt beat marg.

Cotto said something along the lines that he doesnt pay any mind to what Kermit says b/c look at whose career is better (OUCH!!! point goes to Cotto)

other than that, cotto is a gentleman.

Yeah, it is subtle trash talk. Margarito has taken jabs at Cotto, both that comment that he doesn't think this is his hardest fight ever and that he thinks he has fought better fighters who were also undefeated. Also, at the press conference, he said directly to Cotto that he better train more than a 100% for this fight and Cotto answered directly back to him, that he doesn't have to train anymore for him than he does for any other opponent and that he always trains more than 100% percent. Then there was that chatter from Margarito that "he was going to make the ring a pressure cooker and that he would pressure Cotto, wear him down and knock him out".

That's true because before Margarito beat Cintron for the 2nd time I don't think people had this fight being as close. But after he dismantled a guy who had no business to get a rematch, I've seen plenty of people picking Margo to beat Cotto. Not that that's a bad pick, but a lot are basing it on Margo's last fight which was the same win as before and people had him written off after Paul Williams.

I know Cotto is the real deal, but isn't their hype on Margarito because of the way he dismantled Cintron, a person he defeated before in like fashion? Cotto has shown that he is good, but is Margarito good or is his Cintron performance an oversampling of his best and too much on how he really is as a fighter?
