Polly Smith was a cruiserweight from Bermuda.
He had a pretty spotty record of 17-16.
He apparently weighed 177lb for his fight with Turpin. Color me skeptical, but I think he may have weighed a bit more.

What I find interesting here, is that despite the obscurity of Turpins opponent, Polly Smith seems to have pretty decent skills, good form, good balance and good technique. He's top heavy, with some heaviness to his punches, kind of like Liston or Gassiev.

His guard starts opening up as the fight goes into the trenches, but I was still impressed by the ability shown by an unknown low-level opponent. And I think it's a reminder of the kind of depth that existed in these times.
