not long after the Cotto v Margarito fight regarding how much will the fight have taken out of both fighters.

I am in no way saying this is the same as when Taylor fought Chavez or anything like that but you would have to worry, particularly for Cotto.

Margarito, it would seem came out after that fight ready to fight again. Although the adrenalin would've been still in overdrive. He is talking about fighting again before the end of the year and all the big names are being mentioned. But he did take a lot of shots in that fight and perhaps a mandatory wouldn't be out of the question.

As for Cotto he really could do with taking the rest of 2008 off. He really needs to rest both physically and mentally. Again when he comes back in 2009 maybe some form of homecoming for him in Puerto Rico against a seasoned but very beatable veteran wouldn't be out of the question.

Chances are I'm overreacting just a bit. I just wouldn't want these fighters to be rushed too quickly when the affects from last weekend's bout might not kick in until later on.

    Your thoughts?

i agree. in a way it might be good to get cotto to get a quick fight against somebody though. IN A WAY. somtimes if they sit around n wait too long, they get that bad feeling. if he wins then rests, atleast he can think of a win, not how he lost

That's very true. Cotto himself might be feeling that. He might wanna get back in the ring sharpish and exorcise all the demons by basically giving someone a right going over.

No he needs rest...he needs to repair himself mentally and going out and fighting again soon will not benefit him...

cotto is a good fighter, but needs rest after such a beating. A fight too soon could ruin him for life. Taylor was never that same after Chavez. Roger Mayweather was never the same after Chavez.

Yep, I'm telling you guys, both of them took some bad damage in the fight, not just Cotto. If anything, Margo got ripped with the more vicious shots but could take them of course, so visible damage wasn't as bad. Cotto looked torn up more because of the late beatdown Marg put on him and the fact that he cuts and bruises really easily, btu Marg took just as bad, if not a worse amount of accumulated punishment... I'm still amazed he took what he did, when a guy like Cotto is landing some flush 3-5 shot combinations and you aren't blinking... :blood

Margs taken a ton of punishment though, Cotto's taken some bad punishment also... career punishment adds up. These guys won't have long careers after this.

I hope both Cotto and Margarito take the rest of '08 off from boxing. I remember that both Castillo and Corrales jumped right into a rematch 5 months later after their first grueling fight. Both fighters were never the same again. Hopefully, both Cotto and Margarito take time to heal and comeback the way they were before the fight.

I really hope both men are managed carefully. YOU READING ARUM! ****ING CAREFULLY! The last thing I'd want to see is both men rushed and their careers ruined.

But Margarito will probably be back out in Dec against Mosley/Judah or Clottey. A big pay day for him hopefully. I just hope he didn't peak on Sat night and that's the best we'll ever see of him.

I still say Cotto needs to change his corner, take a long rest and move to the States and train there.

The only thing It seems that there is to wonder about is Cotto. The first loss of his pro career, how he bounces back is a true test of his character. Has he his spirit been broken after a fight like this to become the next Hector Camacho?
