I was looking through Komjath's record tonight, to see when and who he's been stopped as a gauge to how well Frankie did tonight when I came across this guy.

Checked out his record, not expecting much, but he's 19-0 with 17 knockouts which caught my attention. Then I checked his amateur record and he was unbeaten in 15 fights before turning pro at 15, so what's interesting is he's never tasted defeat, only 24 years old. He's also of Belgian/Spanish/Italian heritage.

I looked on the Tube expecting the typical Italian 5ft 5 bald chap that walks forward with ear muffs on trying to 'hard man' his way to victory. But to my surprise, he's attempting a much more ambitious and advanced style than that. Shows good speed, clearly has a bit of pop (although how much is unclear at this point), good variation, good reflexes/defence.

    Watch out for him.

Seen Giacon a few times and I'm not overly impressed to be honest. Especially after having seen that record originally. It seems to have really been a case of putting him in up to now with guys he can look good against but who really won't cause him one iota of trouble.

As you said, for a typical Italian fighter he looks different and a bit special. His speed is good and he does put punches together nicely. But I don't think his power is all that and it will get tougher and tougher for him as he moves up levels. I'm not sure of he's really stumbled across a particular style yet. He's been used to working behind his admittedly very decent jab and pushing the fight on the front foot. But i don't see that working from him with better opposition.

I'd rather he relied a bit more on his speed and boxed off the back foot more. His counter punching looks decent and foot movement adequate too so it could work out well for him. I just find him to be very raw and though with a lot of potential, I think he really needs a lot of work to go to the top level.

EDIT: The unbeaten Spaniard he fought, Soria I think his name is or something similar, is one of the worst fighters I've ever seen. God knows where they found him from.

I mean good as in at European level good, and could be someone our guys have to get past. I'm not judging him by uber crtical world level prospect standards. Yet. This is a kid with 15 amateur fights.

However, I may admit that the fact I stumbled across him and he's nothing like the Italian hard men influenced me. In fact, I watched him on YouTube against a bald headed chap and was completely convinced that was him, and that the other lankier latino looking figure must be an imported bum.

I'm sure he'll get to European level, especially given that it's not the same calibre as it once was. He'll probably fight for a belt as well at some point (once again not a real indication of being world class) but from what I've seen thus far, I can't see him winning one.

Anyway, not meaning to hijack TFFP's thread but if anyone wants to see the aforementioned Soria give a lesson on how not to throw a left hook and how to let punches easily get through a supposed high guard, here's his last fight for the Spanish Lightweight title.
