Big paychecks or nothing indeed, Hopkins has gone past the "legacy" stage long ago, what he has done is already out there and ready to be judged. What he's doing now is just adding more to it while making some big money in the process. Whether Cunningham got lucky or not is not Hopkins' problem really, Cunningham should come back from it and prove otherwise. Hopkins is there to pick a big name and so far it looks like Froch might be their choice.
Hopkins ain't gonna beat Dawson or Cunningham if they perform well, and that is why he hasn't shown much interest in fighting them. He has a good chance against Adamek or Froch whether they perform well or not. Styles make fights. Hopkins is cherry picking the easiest fight for the biggest paycheck. Since the fans don't like Hopkins, to make the big paychecks his opponents have to draw the fans or they have to give him all the money. I don't see that happening any time soon. By the way did you fail to notice Hopkins lectures about legacy? He has said in public and on camera that legacy is more important than money! These recent negotiations have put the lie to that theory.
This is the funniest ****ing thread in recent ESB history! She may have failed in her objectives but she's started a classic thread
Precisely - middleweight. In fairness to Hopkins, he probably knows at this point he can't beat Dawson. He's clearly avoiding him, but I don't begrudge him that. What I don't like are his catchweight fights.
"dbuoziane" want to stop being such an annoying dick? so you have learned to 'copy and paste' from failblog.org wow. you're amazing
alright alright...its all in fun. annoying ok...but shoot none of those are nasty; there is some downright nasty posts on there
True. That seems to be the way in here whenever someone says something someone else disagrees with tempers easily fly
You can't say he can or can't, people said he couldn't beat Wright or Pavlik and you saw what happened, it's a different story when they're in the ring. We also know how Dawson fights, he tends to wait a lot sometimes then explode with punches, can't be successful doing that against someone like Hopkins and of course there is a chance he may be successful, we can argue about it all day but in my eyes you can't make a prediction and think it's 100% especially when Hopkins is involved, he made a career proving that wrong and people ought to take notes already. You're honestly thinking that a fight with Adamek is cherry picking away from Cunningham or Dawson?, that's nonsense in my opinion. I would be picking Adamek over Hopkins if he made that fight, Adamek is no joke and Hopkins' choice of opponents are hardly cherry picking, even though I would pick him to completely destroy Froch that's also a decent fight for a 44 year old hopping divisions. No I didn't fail to notice these lectures, just like I haven't failed to notice similar lectures from almost ALL fighters. If you haven't noticed that fighters tend to say that but still seek money then you're the one missing a lot. Legacy is definitely important to fighters but money plays a major role, legacy won't pay the bills when they're around or even after death, these guys do this as a job and not a hobby, don't understand why some fans think it's a hobby. Do you work to prove to your office that you're legendary and creative and would hope to have posters of yourself all over the place in the long run for peanuts or would you try and secure a raise in position and money? No offense and this isn't necessarily directed at you but I notice the majority of fans who are obsessed with this "legacy over money" stuff are ones who can't afford a bottle of beer and tend to go over the line with their jealousy. These fighters do fight for legacy, putting their lives on the line everytime they step in there IS legendary whether you approve of their opponents or not the SPORT approves of them otherwise they won't host the fight nor support it. These fighters also want to make sure they make good enough money out of their job for themselves and their children current and future.
Same **** all over again when Tarver beat Johnson in the rematch and RJJ in the third fight, people kept mentioning how Hopkins would NEVER even THINK about Tarver and was just hoping Johnson wins so he can fight a guy he already beat before. Some people just never learn. I would give Hopkins a better chance at beating Dawson at Light heavy than Adamek at cruiser. Adamek is very underrated here for unknown reasons to me.
