An open letter to each and every person who calls Cotto a 'quitter'

On both counts, Doylexxx is correct. Every fighter looks to their corner for instruction, advice, encouragement, support, whatever. Trying to speculatively mind-read this common gesture is laughable.

And Dave the Great's analogy of him doing a fun-run is priceless, absolutely pure priceless comedy gold. What a cavernous ******* that man is!!

He didnt quit he was getting beat up, plain and simple and was on his way to being ktfo, or are people blind or something. He was reciving a beating and was only a matter of secounds before the ref waved it off anyway :patsch

I personaly don't think he will be the same fighter now

He didn't quit though. Simple as that. He took a knee desperately trying to recover his senses and regain some energy to be able to make it through the round, and his uncle (rightly) looked at him and thought he was already a beaten man, that he should be saved from himself and from Margarito (and from possible permenant damage), and jumped up on the apron forcing the referee to stop the fight. If Miguel Cotto had stayed on his knee for the full count, I could accept people saying he had quit (even though in my opinion, that is not quitting, but I could accept other peoples view on it had that been the case), but the FACT is he did not quit as he did not choose to end the contest. That fact is unarguable.

I hope Dave wins gold at the 10K marathon at the next Paralympics, he is the unstoppable Terminator of the running-****** world. Do you know he actually finished a charity fun-run with a sore tummy and tired legs? I am in awe of his guts, courage and (from what I have perceived on this thread) supreme intelligence.

What a man, what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man, a mighty mighty good man!

Like I said it is all relative, but everyone goes through a situation in life that is hard for them and they can choose to look for a way out or fight through it and continue. That situation can be finishing a pathetic 10K run :), choosing to raise a child, choosing to get a menial job or sell drugs, making it through basic training for the military, making it through ROTC, finishing school, etc.

There is always a choice, we saw last saturday what choice Cotto made when the going got tough and he felt he couldn't hurt Margarito, he took his knee, looked in his corner and gave the signal to quit. David UK brought up an excellent point about Mallinaggi who stuck in their with Cotto, so he atleast could go the distance. Hell look at Cintron in Margarito 2, he made a decision after he was getting tagged and his shots having no effect to atleast go out fighting.

I'm not denigrating Cotto by any means, but he gave up and there is nothing insulting or disrespectful about acknowledging that.

Now I'm done with this thread, name call all you like. :)

"Everybody faces tough situations in life"

So the same logic can be applied to someone turning up for a job they don't like, or some braindead tit doing a fun-run, that can be applied to a man taking a knee to get some time to recover when FOR ALL WE KNOW (you do not know what Miguel Cotto was feeling because you are not him) he could have been in mortal agony with a broken nose, he could have had blurred vision and not be able to see the punches coming, he could have been feeling like he was about to pass out from swallowing so much of his own blood from his nose and jaw, he could have been feeling like his face was ready to snap in half due to the injuries to his face and jaw, or he could have been completely oblivious to all of this because he was teetering on the brink of unconciousness, barely aware of what was going on, from taking hundreds of powerful punches to the head all evening. You don't know what he felt, so how can you judge his actions?

I respect boxers and I respect great boxers. If a guy who is clearly in pain takes a knee, any reasonable fan knows he is taking it for a reason. Did u shout the same things at the tv when Cotto had to take a knee as you did when Gerald McClennan done it v Nigel Benn?

    I repeat: you are a ******.

Does Cotto have any permanent injuries? No. As a matter of fact he wants to get in the ring later this year, so obviously he didn't have any life threating injuries coming from that fight, at least no more than any other boxer who steps in the ring and gets dominated, Alfonso Gomez and Paulie being examples.

McClennan quit in his fight to, good thing he did because who knows how much worse his injuries could have been if he did not. We know that Cotto has no such injuries though.

Did you know Cotto didn't have any permenant injuries at the time he took the second knee?

Did you know then, do you know now, can you ever know, how much pain Miguel Cotto was in or if he was in a fit state to restart defending himself in 10 seconds or if he physically could take more punishment without suffering a permenant injury?

How the **** can you say Gerald McClennan quit when you don't know what he was feeling?!?!?! McClennan could have had a stunning pain in his head that meant he simply could not even think never mind fight, he could have had blurred vision so bad he couldn't see the punches hitting him in the face, he could have HAD to stay down because he was in so much pain and torment he didn't know what was happening around him anymore.

If you respect boxers, you know when they go on a knee that they are only doing it because they are in severe distress and it is a survival mechanism. How ****ing dare you.

What is wrong with you that you think you can sit in your armchair and make judgements on who quit and who didn't, when you have no idea what these men were feeling or on what basis these decisions were made? You are so stupid it makes me want to puke.
