I've read alot of articles and posts about how there is no one left for Wlad to fight and how he has pretty much dominated the division. The interesting fact is that there are a few fighters that Wlad conveniently let Vitali fight instead of Wlad himself. I honestly think Chris Arreolla, Kevin Johnson and Shannon Briggs would have given Wlad problems. Chris has a come forward style that Wlad doesn't like and it would bother him because Wlad doesn't let his hands go like Vitali did to keep Chris off of him. Kevin Johnson, with his size and superb jab would have troubled Wlad because remember Kevin gave Vitali a pretty nasty cut just by jabbing, he really didn't do too much else. Shannon Briggs obviously proved he can endure a serious beating and with his power, do you think he could have walked through some of Wlad's best shots to land his own bombs? Just an observation.
one can argue that, but Wlad and Vitali do both have different styles, Vitali is just an old school hard headed tuff SOB, Wlad has *****s in his armor and a Guy like Arreola might be able to get there...
Arreola couldnt beat little Adamek.Wlad would keep him on the end of the jab before knocking him out.
I can only imagine what you would have said if Vitali had fought Ibragimov, Chagaev, Thompson, Brock, Haye ect.... I bet then, you would think that all of those guys would have given Wlad big problems.
Wlad wants Arreola, and in America! from sports Ilustrated...Tuesday July 5, 2011 5:52PM Klitschko desperately wants another fight in the U.S. -- he hasn't fought here since defeating Ibragimov at Madison Square Garden -- and says he has the "perfect" opponent to face in his return: American Chris Arreola. Arreola, 30, absorbed a brutal beating from Vitali last year but has looked much sharper lately after slashing weight and committing himself to the sport. "Let's do it," Klitschko said. "I checked with Emmanuel, he thinks it's perfect too. Arreola has more experience, he has lost some weight. I hope we can do it in New York. I want to fight in front of that audience. When I fought Ibragimov and [Calvin] Brock, a lot of people came. I hope they would come out again." I like this fight, get it on!! Before the year's over!!!
Yes, Vitali has fought conveniently lesser opposition whereas his brother has been the actual champion and the "two-headed champion" thing is obviously a myth, as this demonstrates. Thanks for pointing that out for me. Arreola's biggest win was over a fat McCline coming out of retirement. McCline of course was dominated and stopped by Wlad, years before. Of course, Briggs was outclassed by Ibragimov before Wlad dominated him. Also interesting. Anyway, great thread, brah. Poignant.
I still believe for a while that's the way the brothers picked the fights. However, nobody on that list would trouble Wlad IMO. Arreola's limited defence and ability to get punched in the face without too much trouble will lead to a brutal, one sided, clinical battering against Wlad. Shannon Briggs at this stage in his career would be like the Haye fight, only without Briggs making Wlad miss. Again, another simple, brutal defeat.
Briggs might have the power to outmuscle him in the clinches, loosen himself and drop that hard OH R, but how long would he last against those pummeling combinations. Certainly he wouldn't be walking straight through them as some suggest.
Nah the * to Wlad's dominance is that he hasn't fought the best (or second best depending on your opinion) fighter in the division.
There has to be an * not just for him but Vitali as well, this 1a and 1b stuff is cute and all but the other champs of the past reigned alone.
briggs has never beaten a top 10 guy EVER....except when he fought lycovich...and foreman...foreman was 48 and and he barley beat lyco...he KOS bums like arreola and that seems to impress people, then they step up and briggs losing every second of every round to vitali amd arreola is beaten by a former 175 pounder... keving johnson? ANYWAY.....
