Julian Evaristo Aristule vs. Guillermo Osvaldo Soloppi, 6 rounds @ featherweight

 

Round 1

Aristule is controlling with the long southpaw jab, letting his arm dangle by his knee when inert. Soloppi is approaching with his thumbs winged over the corners of his eyes, pinkies aimed outward at oblique angles, elbows to his gut, just marching into jabs and letting Aristule dictate range & pace.

Round 2

More of the same. Aristule is mixing in some wet-noodle looping shots on Soloppi's ears from the outside, and still keeping a comfortable distance between them, able to let his fist swing freely by his lead knee and observe Soloppi's every move, reacting in plenty of time, always having a counter or a long-legged retreating step ready when Soloppi feels compelled to action with high flurries in bursts from his tight guard.

Round 3

Better from Soloppi. He is pushing his way in and landing some overhand rights while dipping to his left, caging his face when not punching. Aristule is pushed into the ropes and forced to pry his way free with short left uppercuts behind the snooker cue right jab. Soloppi doing a good job staying in his chest.

Round 4

Aristule is doing lots of clinching now, popping Soloppi in the face with light nudging right jabs on the outside and then curling his left arm down around Soloppi's lower back to draw him in. Soloppi doing his best to mount some offensive flow but Aristule is stemming it with timely clinches and long whacks behind the head. Ugly way to win a round but Aristule does it.

Round 5

Aristule is running and throwing pot shot jabs. Soloppi is overreaching with his stubby left jab, shoulders hiked up, tirelessly pursuing and defending on the way in. Aristule is lackadaisically gliding around the ring with his spindly legs periodically unglued to widen or narrow his stance and create space, jabbing softly in multiples or slapping a right hook around the nape of Soloppi's neck. On one occasion Soloppi is able to step in and touch Aristule with a left hook while getting hit, but successful moments like these are rare.

Round 6

Aristule is getting caught against the ropes and hit with hooks on his throat and rights skidding up his cheek as Soloppi puts together punches in bunches hurtling in. Aristule is cut on the bridge of the nose, by a punch (leaping hook from Soloppi). Left uppercuts and chopping right hooks by Aristule backing up as Soloppi charges into everything he unloads and windmills.

Some hardcore boxing heads on Twitter seemed to be excited that Aristule was being televised. For me, Soloppi, while no more than a domestic journeyman, is generally the more entertaining watch (and was tonight). :conf
