Roy woud be the Biggest opponent Calzaghe has faced physically, hes more a natural Light Heavy than Joe, he also has the punch power even now to hurt Joe.

The problem for Roy is that he is very injury prone, against Trinidad he had a torn Left Bicep, the injury seems to happen to Roy fairly regularly in his later years.

Also Roy used to be an outstanding fighter with his ring generalship, he used to move in and out circle around his opponent and stay away from the ropes.

He now seems to sag on the ropes to gain a breather and counter, I dont think Calzaghe hits with the same strength as a Tarver or a Johnson but he is busy enough to fatigue Jones.

I pick Joe by a close UD 115-113 in the UK, if the fight were in the US i think Jones has a 50-50 chance. Calzaghe will be 37 by November Jones 39.

I still think Calzaghe needs to prove himself at this weight, Hopkins wasn't a natural Light Heavy as seen by 173 weight.

I also think the Crowd would b 50-50 on a Jones Calzaghe fight in the US.

Jones is a very popular personaity, he is like Calzaghe said a class person in and out of the ring. I bring up the issue of the crowd because when Calzaghe flurried and didnt land vs B-Hop the crowd went crazy which would influence the judges.

Hopkins counters didnt get any response despite being more effective.

I can see Jones Jr's flashy text book combos gaining oooos and aaaas from the crowd, this will have an influence.

Jones also cracks to the body very well.

    Will be an interesting fight.

Being a Brit I would like to see Jones in the UK, it would be an honour to see the greatest fighter of this generation and quite possibly the most athletically gifted athlete we have seen for some time. I say this because unlike Mayweather Jones doesnt trash talk to gain an advantage, he intimidates with his ability.

I read an extract from Joes book " Ordinary Joe" he stated the only fighter he was worried about facing was Roy Jones, I think that is some admission from a guy like Joe. Can you imagine any other top guy admitting that? Calzaghe has huge respect for Roy.

Jones recently has also been coming into the ring lookin less mean, smiling at the crowd showing too much respect to his opponent (remember when he fought TITO he was laughing and winking at Tito between rounds), I hope Roy get serious and gets motivated, it would be an astonishing story to cap of his career with a W vs Joe.

RJJ by KO in RD 11. I think both fighters are past it but RJJ will be motivated because he wants to get back to the top again where as JC is thinking about life after boxing.

Motivated Roy wins this with his laser right hand on the chin of Calzaghe to put him down and then finish him with his combos.

Calzaghe wins by getting off the canvas to outhustle Roy, sweeping rounds 8-12.

He won't be getting off the canvas and IF he does then he'll be finished by the greatest finisher in boxing.

I remember back in 2003 you used to have delusional Tyson fans asserting that if he only trained instead of slacking off he could beat everyone and re-unify the title!

    Get Kevin Rooney back!

God you RJJ sackswingers are equally delusional.

Mate, I respect Roy Jones hes a true all time great and talent wise the best SMW of all time and a great LHW too.

I understand your a big fan but his time has come. If he retreats to the ropes as he has been doing as of late JC will simply slap the **** out of him...hes far too tentative these days to beat Calzaghe. Particularly if the fight does happen in Wales.

I tend to agree. The only factor that could change that is this:

If Jones is at SMW where he was never hurt, where he is not smaller than the fighters he is fighting, and Calzaghe hits him and Jones realizes that he Calzaghe cannot hurt him (I still think a couple of those stiff lefts he hit Hopkins with would make Jones think twice now, even if they don't hurt, he would be cautious), Jones might then start throwing more. And at this point in there careers, Jones may still be faster than Calzaghe and hit hard enough to get Joe to back off. Then you have an interesting fight.

That is not a likely scenario IMO because as I said, I think Calzaghe can catch Jones with a stiff left and keep him cautious.

I agree with the first poster. Jones is relying on the ropes too much lately, and he won't go all huggybear just to avoid flurries. Jones should be marginally more active than Hopkins, but unlike Hopkins, he doesn't have a style that takes away Calzaghe's workrate and he'll probably end up getting outworked. Roy of old would have schooled Calzaghe, but his reflexes are just a bit too slow these days to avoid enough of Calzaghe's punches to be able to come back with effective flurries of his own. I'd say Joe takes it by razor-thin decision. Should be a more fun fight to watch than Hopkins though.
