I would like to discuss the possibility of a real "Dream Match" between the current p4p best Manny Pacquiao and the former p4p best Floyd Mayweather. First off this fight truly constitutes this title because they both have tremendous resumes that include multiple titles in various weights. More importantly each fighter is currently viewed to be still in their fighting prime by the boxing world. Not too long ago it was viewed that Mayweather's physical advantages and Pac's technical deficiencies made this fight to be beyond the realm of possibility; but because both fighters have recently fought on the biggest stages and came away with impressive victories outside of their comfort weights, this "Dream Match" is now worthy of serious discussion. This fight also would represent the biggest boxing event ever! It's a strong statement but here are my reasons: 1. Most casual fans have seen each fighter at least once. (This is key because much of the time when a big fight get mentioned to casual fans, they have to be informed about one of the fighters because they never heard of or seen them in action. (ex. Ricky Hatton here in the states. Before 24/7 nobody really knew of him here. ex.2 Calzaghe v Hopkins) 2. Most casual fans are attracted to watching a fighter with an undefeated record. I can't state how many times I've had discussions with casual fans about a fighter they never heard of and the first question they ask is what is the record of the fighter. I usually sense an immediate lack of interest if I reveal a loss on the fighter's record. Mayweather obviously has a perfect record and people are always drawn to perfection. 3. People like a contrast of personalities. Between Mayweather's ego and Pac's humility this fight makes for an extreme personality contrast which would inevitably be exploited during a pre-fight build up. (24/7) 4. They both have defeated the Golden Boy. This point ties into my first reason and is the most important of all my reasons. The Golden Boy has been boxing's golden ticket for quite sometime. He has generated countless of millions of dollars and has, for the most part, fought against all comers. His fights are stained in the memories of even casual fans. For both Mayweather and Pacquaio to have defeated him, it would undoubtedly become the central focal point during a pre-fight built up. Casual fans would soak it up thus creating a frenzy and a demand that will financially yield numbers that have never been reached in the sport of boxing. Thanks for reading and I look forward to you responses. I'm honored to have graduated to the "stage 2 noob" status. Best response wins my 1001 post. :yep
Grats on your 1000th post I can't write much now, but this fight is exciting me already :nut This would be the biggest mega fight for such a long time..... not only would it be huge for non-hardcore fans, but for hardcore fans... this is the biggest matchup since.... since, Well I really don't know. Its huge. The p4p best fighter in the world vs the only recently retired p4p best figher in the world. What else could we possibly ask for? styles make fights, and for some reason I favor PBF a bit, but after watching Pacman dismantle and beat up DLH , who had never even been beat up against much bigger guys, I won't ever doubt Pacman ever again.. I would be rooting for Pacman in this fight and I really hope it does happen.
