I'll go with Patterson by decision, 8 rounds to 4. Patterson was elite against any heavyweight that didn't have a thunderous punch. Spinks would fall into that category.
Spinks he dealt with one of the best pressure fighters of all time "Qawi" I think he would be able to deal with Patterson. I'm assuming were talking about Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight.
this exactly. Patterson could eat damage and recover like no one else. Big punchers have the best chance against Floyd. Spinks might knock Floyd down but he won’t be able to keep him on the canvas.
Being undersized and using the peek a boo then add his speed Patterson would have the advantage over spinks basically beating him up for twelve rounds and winning on the scorecards.
This is a tough one, a good challenge. If at HW Spinks got bigger, has a small advantage. But by no means is anything a foregone conclusion. I am totally unsure who to pick. Patterson has speed & skill, power is similar, Spinks is very skilled & awkward. No significant difference in chin, endurance, or workrate that I can think of.
I’d say Patterson even has more power. With his hand speed, he would overwhelm Spinks if Patterson got close enough to throw combinations. I don’t think Spinks defense would stand up to the onslaught that is Floyd Patterson in his prime. Both are elite fighters. But I don’t know how Spinks will consistently keep Pattersons pressure at bay.
