Was it just me, or was tonight's fight the same old mayweather snooze fest. this guy is seriously screwing the fans over. the guy has every advantage in the world, it's obvious his opponent can't hurt him, and yet he pit-a-pats the guy with same jab and left hook the entire fight. it wasn't until the 9th round that floyd actually risked anything in order to make the fight exciting in any way. not that there was anything to risk, obviously. i, for one, am tired of the same old bull**** from floyd. he's obviously smart and he obviously knows how to pick his opponents, but for ****s sake, at least give your fans their money's worth. imo, he was cupcaking it all night tonight. he was way too conservative and i don't understand how he doesn't get why he's not a bigger name in the sport and selling more tickets/ppv buys than he does. he acts like he's the biggest name in the sport and he's the big attraction, but he must know that he isn't. mayweather seriously needs to step it up and give the fans what they want. he's obviously a great enough boxer to take on anyone. just ****in do it, floyd. prove the haters wrong. earn the respect you deserve.
I wasnt bored by the fight. And I'm not the biggest PBF fan. If he had gotten an early loss, early in his career, maybe he would have been less picky or careful on picking fights. The zero loss record just looks too cool, and you'd hate to lose it.
No it wasnt just you. It was a snoozer. When PBF attacks he is fun to watch if he fights off his back foot. You might as well watch UFC. Katsidis made the PPV event worthy. Thank God for Kat.
Fans of PBF would rather see him like he was against Gatti. Taking the fight to the opponent. If he plays his shell defensive game it gets so boring that he makes John Ruiz suddenly looks like Tyson. But i give him Props for making his opponents miss. But if he is so talented why not fight like he did against Gatti. He always and i mean always fights scared. If someone was fit and could keep pressure on him not give rests they would beat his ass. Everytime Marquez got aggressive PBF would back up to the ropes and not throw.
Mayweather is Mayweather......throughout the fight I kept hoping that Mayweather would step it up a notch.......I wanted to find out how deep JMM could dig......and obviously being quicker of both hand and foot, it was the only way JMM would have a chance to get into the fight. .....but the thread starter is absolutely right, Mayweather does'nt understand that the fans want to see a fighter push himself to the limit. I keep hearing that Marquez was dominated, and he clearly lost yes......but I dont get that feeling that it was a Mayweather dominant performance because he was too defensive against a fighter much smaller than he was. There is a time and place for defensive conservativism......against the likes of bigger fighters like Margarito and Paul William.....there is reason to be conservative with the likes of fighters who have more size and reach over you. Even though Mayweather got the better of it, I enjoyed the brief moments late where Mayweather pushed some for the KO, and Marquez the Warrior he is not backing down........ .....but as we know, anytime Marquez put two shots together, Mayweather put his bicycle shoes on!
i feel the same way. the guy is so ****in talented it's ridiculous. there were a few times in this fight that i wasn't bored off my ass because floyd was actually entertaining and using his incredible skills. the rest of the time, i was wondering why the hell floyd was taking it so easy. i watched this fight with 30 other boxing fans and they all had the same general opinion. i thought floyd could have come out swinging and probably knocked marquez out by the 5th or 6th round. not that i really would have wanted to see that because i was hoping marquez would give floyd a run for his money, but it would have been way better than watching floyd toy with marquez for 12 rounds and basically embarrass him.
Gatti was a walking punching bag, which is the reason that Mayweather took it to him.......Mayweather could'nt have missed him if he tried. Obviously JMM is alot more skilled and cagey to get dominated in that fashion.
I'm thinking of marketing a new brand of sleeping pills & I'm gonna call them, yep you guessed it, Mayweather.
****ing waste. That's what it was. One of the few fights I've watched with my father in years and it was a total bust 100%. Pops is a boxing guy from waaay back, and he was disgusted by Mayweather's lack of gusto - and Floyd is his favorite active fighter. TRUST ME, it was ****.
it would have been a far better fight had floyd been the agressor and made marquez dig deep and really get into the fight. he knew marquez couldn't catch him or hurt him, why the hell was he just chillin pot shotting marquez the whole night. where were the flurries, the uppercut combinations, the lateral movement while hooking and setting up the straight punches (specifically the right hand). i rarely saw any of this from floyd tonight.
