That argument is weak since the rules clearly state that generally it has to be #1 vs #2 for the ring championship. 1 vs 3 is the exception. most people already know that man.
Number #2 is Cotto and he's already in a fight with Jennings who isn't top 10 ranked ... it only makes sense. When Calzaghe and Lacy fought ... I believe Lacy was the #3 super middleweight in the world. Those two fought for the legitament super middleweight title.
