From three years ago. You be the judge. Does he have skills? What's your opinion? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6am0z_anderson-silva-vs-julio-cesar-boxin_sport
Hell no he doesn't have skills as far as having a boxing career but he seems to have developed into a well rounded fighter.
I read somewhere that Boxrec was mistaken that this fight in 2005 was his boxing debut. According to the ring announcer as well.
Anderson has always had good boxing skills, good footwork, accuracy, chin, etc. However, his skills are incomplete in the boxing ring. Without his kicks, knees, elbows, etc he's just not the same unstoppable force. He is a good boxer, just not world class.
Boxing is such a different technique than K1, Kickboxing, or MMA. The entire way you have to stand to block from take-downs, kicks, and holds/throws changes your stance and footwork. It's a hard transition, as you have to go against instincts to use your whole skill-set, whereas a classically trained boxer only has to think about boxing, a MMA guy has to block out a whole boatload of training in his mind to just "box".
I heard Fwank Warren had it taken down so the other couldnt get hold of the "talent" that he wanted his boys to face.
roy jones would eat him. many good k1 and mma guys like mark hunt or ray sefo were only mediocre boxers. even ottke would win vs silva in a boxing match...
hahaha check out about 7 mins into the video or a bit after. its a slow motion replay of silva attempting the ali shuffle and eating a left hand hehehehe :bbb
It's also like a magnifying glass for the MMA fighter's real boxing skill because there is nothing else to take his opponent's focus off of boxing as well. If the opponent doesn't have to worry about takedown defense or submissions, this creates fewer openings for the MMA fighter and shows his true level of boxing expertise, or lack thereof. As the saying goes- jack of all trades, master of none. The more well rounded the fighter, the more trouble he'll have with a true specialist (in any discipline) if it comes down to specific skills. I don't think it's that they're confused because of having so much combat training lol so much as that if you spend your time doing one thing, you're just naturally not going to be as good at the other.
He's good but he was clearly breathing heavily after one round. He also doesnt have alot of power in his hands and wearing bigger gloves will minimize it even more. But he is the best stand up fighter in the history of MMA.
