Not that it's a bad thing. on the contrary. Personally speaking , as a fan of the sport (or any sports) , i like my champs to be respectful , humble , polite etc...it's not about being PC...or any of that ****... But i just like champs who are let's say..."down to earth". the ones who have ego trips are generally on my shitlist.

No matter how good they are...(though Mayweather is an exception..he rarely pisses me off)....

But anyway , Anderson Silva....comes to the ufc , owns everyone....and i guess when you look at this guy's attitude it's a quasi replica of the emelianenko bros....just another day at the office. No **** talking , no threats , no pretense...as calm as possible.

Just here to put to test the gameplan and their training.
Only difference between anderson & fedor is that silva shows more emotions when he's winning. (fedor always keeps a poker face).

The question is WHY can't they all be like that ?....
Think about it for a second...let's say you had the talent + the technic + the confidence + the top game plans...that you had a great consistency on your fights record.

Would you be **** talking all day ? or showing off ?....Now , there's a noticeable paradox in all of this.

For example , people love mean , assholes too...Remember Tyson ?

"Lennox Lewis, I'm coming for you man. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!"

    or
    (on ruddock)
"You're sweet. I'm going to make sure you kiss me good with those big lips. I'm gonna make you my girlfriend."

    or
    (on McBride)
"I'm going to gut you like a fish."

so over the top that it ended being funny most of the time...
It's funny because some of the most outrageous fighters always get more media attention too...(obviously from a marketing pov , one would argue that it's better for the sport)...

One of the kings of **** talking was muhammad ali but at least this guy had the style. (like a professional actor)...he had a real personality.

anyway , i think it's a shame that some of the most humble ones never get as much love or attention.

It's part of their mentality. Both the **** talkers and the humble guys( p.s. my finger tips hurt oww).

There 2 different frames of mind that people have if they are champions. First frame of mind is "I AM the BEST"(which is the **** talkers). They actually "know" that they are the best. These positive thoughts help in the fights, give them the extra boost of during the fights because they think there's no way I can be beaten. Sometimes people carry over that to everything and become shittalkers. Sometimes people go with that mentality only into the ring but keep the outside as humble as possible even though still show signs.

Fedor(dunno about Silva i haven't really watched any personal interviews with him) is on the other hand calm. His frame of mind is "this is a sport" "I will try my hardest regardless of the opponent". He's not thinking about getting hurt, when he comes out he goes out there like its a chess match. He has a set of tools that he has gained during hardwork in practice now he will use those skills in a competition. This set of mind is so HIM that everything else just stays clear of him(no fame no anything is going to get his head swollen). He doesn't put a lot of significance on a win that's why he is so calm after wins. When he raises his hand with a smile he's probably thinking through the "chess game" that he was just involved in.

I'd say Silva has the "I'm the best" mentality but he steers clear of translating that into his everyday life. So when he goes out there and wins it brings a lot of emotion to him because he put a lot of significance on the win and to "prove himself the best."

Some of the greatest athletes in the world are the most humble. I think humble guys know their limits, and know they're human. Realizing that helps them overcome those limitations, as well as steer clear of overconfidence. They never take anything lightly or let emotions cloud their judgment. Roger Federer may be the best tennis player...ever...and he's about as relaxed and nice as they come.

A large part of it is that we don't understand a word they are saying, for the most part.

Promoters' influence a lot of fights by encouraging the slated fighters to act stupid and say dumb words to add hype and marketability. There's no business like show business...

Neither are American. No offense, I'm American as hell, but our culture tends to lend itself to a reputation of dogs with big barks, and puny bites. Sad but true.

i think it is because they know that they are that damn good. some people have to tell other people that they are good and this communicates a cocky image while silva knows he does not have to do that

It really says something about the state of professional athletics when we expect guys to act like total assholes, and the humble respectful competitors seem the minority.

Because they are good enough that they don`t have to promote themselves by running their mouth. The opposite would be someone like Tito, hasn`t beaten anybody good in ages but still is a huge name.

What's the saying? When you get to the endzone, act like you've been there before.

    Chael sonnen? ;)
not a very spectacular guy, yet claims he'd own heavyweights.

Talking **** isn't very smart when you're the champ, you're most likely expected to win and thrash talk will just add more pressure and make you look stupid if you lose.

Fedor, GSP, A. Silva, Jose Aldo.
All on top of the P4P rankings, all extremely humble and respectful guys.
