The Doctor who operated on his leg was interviewed today about the injury.

He said that they've inserted a titanium rod in his leg and it was a success. He also stated that Silva's already using crutches and expects the healing process to be 3-6 months and that he could back in training in 6-9 months if he chooses to do so.

On another note, Silva's first question to the Doctor before his operation was asking when he could train again!

Yep. The bone itself will actually be stronger than before upon recovery. That's assuming that the muscle will recover (it will actually atrophy and wither away during the rest phase, so it'll be visibly smaller, weaker, and less flexible going into rehab).

Given the level of rehab and drugs available to fighters, he shouldn't have a problem bouncing back if he wants to. And, yes, the titanium rod is a competitive advantage.

I hope for his sake he stays away. I'm sure no fighter wants to go out with an injury like that, but he's going to be the Roy Jones of MMA if he comes back.
The first fight he realized he can be caught, and he can be hurt. So he fought more cautious in the 2nd, his eyes went back in his head on a punch in the inside.. Looked like he had no punch resistance anymore. He will not want to throw a leg kick. He's 38 and wouldn't come back until 40. His aura of invinsibility is gone when they know they can knock him out.. He might beat a few bums but not anybody elite IMO.
    Hoping he hangs them up.

He may come back but one thing that's for certain he will be a little older, he had been struggling a bit in his wins prior to fighting Weidman. Another that is not certain is: how is the leg injury going to affect him psychologically? Is he going to be hesitant to use leg kicks? Kicking was kind of his bread-n-butter offense and if he has a mental block that prevents him from kicking what happens then?

Sonnen was doing well until he missed and fell down. Silva has been declining for awhile now.

Silva is done done done. Opponents won't fear him anymore either, he will get KO'd again, probably his very first fight back. He was a great but his time is done. Not to mention the mental damage of the KO and now his bones breaking lol

If I was Dana White I'd say that enough is enough.

Unfortunately, Dana White will just be thinking of PPV buys of the Silva comeback and go with it.

He will be back unless he decides not to. I agree he's been on the decline for a while and that people won't fear him like they once did. I can see him getting taken out a few times now that fighters know they can hurt him!

Sonnen almost beat him in the first match with his wrestling.. Granted Silva redeemed himself, but it showed he wasn't invinsible.
Silva was almost knocked out with a short punch to the ear from Weidman.. Imagine what a big punch from a guy like Vitor would do.

Add to the fact he'll be gun shy to throw that leg kick (takes away his game), he'll be older, slower, etc... No way does he beat everybody else in the division. He could win fights obviously, but not tough fights IMO.

Came here to see what was happening in the MMA section as I just watched the Silva vs Weeman ( LOL ) fight. And see someone spouting utter rubbish. In the first fight Silva was not taking Weeman seriously at all. Silva had been hit before and wobbled BEFORE Weeman so don't act like he had never been hurt before. This second fight had nothing to do with Weeman beating him either, it was an unfortunate incident.
Silva was always capable of being caught and knocked down/out because of his style and I am not saying Weeman got lucky either. Weeman took advantage of Silva not taking him seriously and fighting with a non-excistent guard.
Look what happend to Sonning controled the whole of the fight messed up SIlva yet still lost.
I bet you think GSP never won his last fight either
