Anyone else see this happening ? Matt unless Serra beats GSP agian has no where else to go at Welterweight. Matt expressed intrest in this fight last year and has recently said Henderson showed up out of shape and he still sees holes in Silvas game. You know Dana White would make this so he can promote it and make big money off it regardless of it being a mismatch or not. They can do what Couture said and that even though he lost twice to Chuck at a lower weight class he saw holes in Sylvias game and came back to expose it and Hughes lost to GSP twice and saw holes in Silvas game and we all know how Couture-Sylvia worked out. I see this as the next fight for Anderson Silva now I know he KOs Hughes in 2 rounds at most and brutally thats not the point. Anyone else see this as the next fight Danas thinking money people will buy Hughes-Silva before Silva-Okami 2.

I don't think Hughes stands a chance though he is the "type" of fighter i think could theoretically beat Silva.

  3. Honestly the only fighter I see standing a chance is Matt Linland, if he could lay and pray for 5 rounds. A catchweight fight between silva and jackson would be interesting.

Anderson Silva would destroy Hughes. I don't even think St Pierre would stand a chance against Silva. Honestly and this might sound crazy, but stylistically I think BJ Penn would have a better chance than both those guys....but he'd still be beaten.

not a good idea but with dana, its like the PGA, "Anything's Possible"...

at this point its pretty clear that ufc has no decent middleweight fighter to offer to silva. And the more logical step to take is for the spider is to either move to the 205lbs division and face the likes liddell, jackson, wandy, shogun or even tito(dreadful..), or call out on some prime welters like hughes, gsp and even the lightweight penn(not a walk in the park either..) to fight him at middle. But probably, that's just dana messing with the Silva camp. Dana would obviously explore these possibilities because as a businessman, he has to know what sells and what won't.

But in my opinion, the more sensible thing to do is for silva to stay in the middleweight and just wait a little while till another serious contender comes along. As they often say, be the best at what you do and try to keep it that way. Why reinvent the wheel if the wheel is turning especially on your favor? That's how legacy is made anyways.

Hughes doesn't have a prayer, he wasn't even in the last 2 fights against GSP but he sees holes in Silva's game? even if he managed to get Silva down which would be a task in itself...what could he possibly do that Lutter,Marquart,Franklin and Henderson couldn't do when they had Anderson down? I think he would be target practice for Anderson. Hughes is one of the last remaining Dinosaurs in the UFC with his effective but limited style.

I think Okami is a worthy fight even Bisping if he looks good at 185 are at least reasonable fights.

I think Silva would walk right through Okami. I think Okami needs a few more fights. Would love to see him fight Rich Franklin

Matt hughes has amazing defense, I highly doubt silva would knock him out. Hughes GSP 2 was interesting because Hughes had GSP tied up really well, but GSP pulled a devastating arm bar.

I think Silva would have a hard time with hughes, but would probably come out with a victory.

Actually GSP dominated Hughes on the feet and Knocked him out in the 2nd fight. Silva's striking is on another level then GSPs even. It was Hughes who pulled the armbar on GSP in the first fight and GSP subbed Hughes with one in the 3rd, but Hughes certainly DIDN'T have GSP tied up at all in that fight. I am very confused by your post :patsch

Lol, this is a ridiculous match up. Look at how small Hughes looked against St. Pierre. Silva would end it whenever he feels like it.

GSP couldn't GNP Hughes, Hughes had him tied up on the ground, even though Hughes was powerless he still had a pretty good defense on the ground until he got arm barred. And yes GSP did dominate him on his feet, thats how the fight got to the ground in the first place.

What! :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl He great defense! grab on and hold for dear life. Obviously Hughes wasn't hurting him on the feet, but GSP didn't do nearly as much damage standing in the 3rd fight as he did in the 2nd. The 3rd he schooled him in submission wrestling and takedowns, the 2nd he schooled him in standup.

Whatever though. This thread still makes me laugh  If this was two years ago, i would give Hughes a chance. But after seeing GSP dominate him and BJ make him look amateur for 2 rounds......I would be my mothers life that Anderson beats him brutally inside a round. :deal

Dude, watch it again. GSP landed some damned good elbows and punches, and after GSP dud the worm with Hughes holding on his only defense against the punches was to turn his head so GSP couldn't hit the back of it. Hughes got owned in ever second of that fight for every inch of the cage. There was no "tying up" at all.

Have anyone seen the Leben/Silva match???..

That would look like a friendly competition compared to what Silva will do to Hughes..
