The disclosed pay that you see everywhere doesnt includes PPV share revenue, Bonus for fight, undisclosed arrangements, sponsors.... Silva made millions with that fight, everybody knows it.
All of which he would have had as a boxer plus multi-million dollar pay check each fight. The best UFC fighters get paid peanuts compared to top boxers. And if Silva had any decent boxing skills to be a boxer he would have been a boxer. Oh wait he did try and got KTFO against a bum in his first attempt and over in UFC he is the best boxer they have. LOL!!!
Very good post. The precipitous fall off of boxers compensation after the very cream of the crop is IMO one of the biggest factors as to why boxing has not been able to attract many of the finest athletes into the sport at young ages. Why would any talented athlete choose boxing over American football, basketball, baseball, etc when I know that at the worst if I make it to the NFL I will get a 500k base salary? How long is it before you start making that in boxing, half a career if not more for some weight classes? As you said, MMA might not make May/Pac/Oscar money, but overall the participants make better salaries than their boxing counterparts.
Ricky Hatton was 10 when he converted to boxing. Vitali was doing both all along and was a world class kick-boxer in his teens when he converted. Silva is good at what he does but from the footage I've seen of him boxing he's nothing special.
Lol MMA guys don't make as much as boxers. Guys in UFC are payed well. As are boxers who get on TV. Journey in both get next to nothing. Mega stars in boxing get much more.
You don't know **** about boxing. Have you honestly watched Silva box? Have you watched Chad Dawson box? What exactly is your definition of 'technically gifted and sound'? I've seen Silva 'boxing' on youtube...Chad would reduce him to a pile of rubble...
